Sooner the Syrian army pacifies their country the better. Israelis hold some strategic locations but not much land as u said. Bringing in the Kurds and preventing open borders in the north east will prevent militant Kurds from travelling across iraq/Turkey kurdish majority areas etc for weapons and training.
At least the country is ruled by the majority class of people and that brings natural stability whereas before there was always the chance of open communal violence between majority vs minority. Let's hope Syria turns out well and not into another Libya in coming years
We need to remember the context. Syria faced a bloody civil war for over 13 years. Their focus and priority is to deal with the past (put the Al-Assad regime officials and others (ISIS and others) to account), unify Syria fully (almost succeeded with that) and to develop while refraining from entering any new conflicts.
That is why Syria refuses, despite big pressure, to open the Hezbollah file in next door Southern Lebanon. Or involve themselves in Iraq next door.
Christian Arabs, Assyrians and others are doing fine and not targeted. You can google the Christmas and Easter celebrations in Syria this year, last year and even in 2024 just mere days after the ouster of the regime.
Sure, a minority of Syrians have been radicalized by the civil war (in all sorts of ways) and many are traumatized, millions of Syrians have yet to return (some of them highly educated and youth who could contribute to Syria) but overall the Syrians were always a tolerant and civilized people with a rich ancient history. Luckily for Syrians there birth rates are rather high and healthy (compared to global modern standards) so they will will have a healthy population growth in the foreseeable future.
In general I will not have the largest expectations for Syria in the coming years. They need to deal with the basics before they can truly excel but I have no doubt that they will succeed long-term if they can keep internal peace and stability (and the region as a whole does not blow up) as they are a talented bunch overall.
Just a shame that they wasted 50 + years under the Al-Assad regime where they partially turned into an Arab version of North Korea.
This is Syria under Al-Sharaa:
Don't listen to mostly Iranian propaganda who are still butthurt that they were kicked out of Syria permanently. They want to make it sound like Syria has turned into some Taliban and that all minorities are being killed, lol.
And this is Latakia (many Alawites live there):
