From the 1990s onward, Hong Kong joined the campaign. In protest against the British government's obstruction of their actions, Chan Tiu-hai, a leader of the Hong Kong group defending the Diaoyu Islands, staged a self-immolation demonstration. On October 7, 1996, people from Hong Kong and Taiwan landed on the Diaoyu Islands and successfully raised both the PRC and ROC flags there.......
