Infact the US had barely a few hundred folks on the ground when they basically drove the Taliban out of most of Afghanistan by blasting them wherever they stood.

The issue comes in when you get into “nation building” and the associated profit machine along with it. If the US took the Russian approach with zero outside support (until Stingers and other support came in the USSR was grinding the Afghan Mujahideen into extinction) they would have won. Afghanistan would be a complete wasteland and the Taliban would likely be down to a few tribal family strains.

But that is not how war is generally conducted and to an extent also not how you can conduct war in Pakistan.

Think it from a human point of view - when you say the army is heavy handed(and what the establishment also fails to understand) is that you have troops who are trained for years to be ruthless killers. You want them to be ferocious, to jump in front of machine gun fire and to rip out hearts. You tell them those people are terrorists, takfiris - animals - kill them where they stand.

And you should be proud to say many of your soldiers and officers are like that - Lions.

But the at the same time, after you achieve military objectives you cannot expect to turn a switch off on your lions and have them hold flowers and be humanitarian to people you dehumanized as part of the military morale building.

Ideally, this is where you hope the local government, civil admission, local law enforcement etc comes in to provide the gentler and more aligned hand with mop up and rebuilding and so on.

Instead, because you neglected that area since partition you left no such system in ace other than ineffective locally sourced and intrained levies who are basically the same people with your provided guns and Aggressive quasi indoctrination.

You dont have civil servants instead you have tribal elders you continue to pay and expect to be experts in all forms of rehabilitation and so on while being utterly honest. Because at the end the Punjab centric PmL(N) and the corruption riddled PPPP or ANP never truly cared. JI you have mostly stuffed with halwa puri mullahs who wouldn’t know any information or motivation beyond Madressas and planting date trees.
Then you have PTI which in KP basically took in 70% of ex ANP and JI stock with the folks who were semi qualified stymied by IK’s own bending over to these corrupt political elements to maintain power.

So who is supposed to take over post any military op?

Well, then the bright khakis decide “we will do it” and put in MES and FWO on infra but give local relations and security to the same ferocious lions so the locals are unsure if you’re there to help them or beat them into “help me help you!”

It’s basically a broken system putting duct tapes on itself except it’s progressing into more and more duct tapes made by Fauji Foundation.

Which is why I proposed that now the military is to entrenched like an octupus that you cannot use any other mechanism for change except this system.

And then using proper change management to empower those competent folk to enable them and in turn have them enable reformists to change.
In this you’re fighting the mirror images of loonies noonies in uniform or Jiyalas in uniform or religious nutjobs in hiding in uniform.

However, “disbanding the military “ or “war of liberation “ isn’t a way to improve Pakistan.

Maybe a way to change it by ending Pakistan permanently but then when you’re blinding by hatred as many PTi supporters are, or those following PTM or BLA or many others are - it seems like a more achievable outcome.

Apart from direct transfer to KP, federal govt give rs100 billion extra for FATA development. Now you ask what is Rs100b? Karachi have less dev budget then Rs100b and its population is 5 times more.

Military has built far better infrastructure in tribal regions than what second tier cities and rural areas of Pakistan have......see that before passing any judgement.
