Turkey Syria - News & Updates

Druze have nothing to do with ex-regime elements and remained mainly neutral, if not slightly anti-assad. They have been cautious as a minority because they don't want to risk their whole community because of (wrong) political choices.

NameCountryStance on Assad
Sheikh Hikmat al-HijriSyriaIncreasingly critical (once neutral)
Sheikh Wahid al-BalousSyriaStrongly anti-Assad (assassinated 2015)
Rijal al-KaramaSyriaAnti-Assad / pro-autonomy
Walid JumblattLebanonStrongly anti-Assad
Talal ArslanLebanonPro-Assad
Israeli Druze leadersIsrael/GolanMixed views; mostly supportive of Syrian Druze people, not regime

Yes. Majority of the Druze kept the neutrality stance but Hijri was proven to not be neutral and pro assad and some regime elements have arrived to Suwayda as a hide out.

Even tho Hijri accepted to stop fighting twice some faction never obeyed him lol.

You could be truth about the other figures tho as there are actully alot of pro new regime amongst the Druze

@Falcon29 they have overplayed their hand to much here..

There is no way on earth Syria will accept ex-regime elements and drug lords to have any say in Syria´s future
It looks to have escalated but it's also hard finding reliable news about situation right now

I have good sources. The Syrians are in uproar in many cities and now Hijri´s holdouts are being chased on eastern countryside of Suwayda region. New military police entering Suwayda every 2-3 hours

Your chart is wrong. Hijri was in the Assad camp, its the others that were Neutral or in the Pro Revolution camp.

Generally true. Druze tend to be very caution and not take sides. They prefer to be neutral, but they change alliances often as well when its convenient, its rarely iron clad with them. However, there were some that were anti-Assad since the beginning, and some were pro and fought for him in the SAA. The ones that profited and fought for the older regime are being cleared out.

Do you have a source that says hijri was always pro assad? and never against or neutral? I found different sources showing that he changed positions.

You are not going to be able to ChatGPT it. But I assure you, he was firmly in the Assad camp, never "neutral". neutral implies he didn't take sides or he looked at the Opposition and Assad equally, he always took a side, and that was with Assad or with Israel now.

He was always in the Assad camp, but sometimes critical of Assad, but never to the point where he was opposed to assad overall, more like an internal pro SAA dispute over minor politics.

The Assad regime was the weakest regime that Syria has ever had period him and his fathers period
But militarily they had kept Syria as one among the most powerful state in middle east....

Turkey is a strategic partner of Syria and supporting the rebuild of Syria while facilitating the dipolomatic interests of Syria.
And you believe all this is being done for free by Turkiye?

And you believe all this is being done for free by Turkiye?

Turkey has converging interests with the new Syrian govt. Same enemies and Turkey btw is responsible for the current govt. Syria is also an investment opportunity and a partner in the region, a market for Turkish goods, as well as it being in Turkish interests that it recover and grow so as to allow for refugees to feel comfortable in being able to return in a sustainable way.

Syria-Israel war maybe official in the next hours or days. Just like that Iran-Israel war.

I hope Syria has alot of missiles and artillery that can reach the enemy and hurt them as well plus there will be a conventional engagement. Prepare for a long drown out conflict once the conflict starts Syria should not give ceasefire until they exit all the territories

ANKARA, Turkey — Israeli airstrikes on Damascus — targeting the Syrian military headquarters, Defense Ministry, and areas around it — aim to sabotage Syria’s efforts to establish peace and security, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry says.
The ministry says Syria had a historic opportunity to live in peace and integrate into the world after the toppling of Bashar al-Assad, the former president, in December.

How else can he stay in power? He knows that if war stops and they have elections,he will fall and maybe even tried for mishandling the hostages matter. His government was about to fall before the war, then suddenly...Hamas attacks and he finds an excuse to stay in power. Then goes after Lebanon, then Iran.

it was ragtag
During first gulf war Syria was almost as capable as Iraq.... greatly trained army, huge tank and artillery force, decent air force, huge stock of Russian ballistic missiles like scuds and other types..... no idea about their navy..... but it's far from being called as ragtag.....
