Turkish Air Defence Programs

It was HISAR-A but not GURZ

GURZ has extra more fire power ( guns + Missiles ) and Jammer
also 4 AESA Radars + EO/IR Cameras for better detection capability

not HISAR-A , but GURZ is ideal for asymmetric warfare.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Turkish UCAVs destroyed 40+ AD Systems including PANTSIR , BUK , TOR , S300 , FK-2000 FB-10

There is no air defense system that cannot be hit, including the most advanced THAAD radar systems of the US.
So hisar a can’t defend against loitering munitions? Got it

HISAR A also has a AESA radar. Just like Korkut.

but GURZ's 4 AESA Radars provides continuous and real-time 360° coverage with 4 separate AESA panels. There is no scanning delay in any direction. It responds much more effectively and quickly, especially against drone swarms, kamikaze UAVs, and low-visibility threats

If you're looking for classic air defense and longer range, HISAR-A's MAR Radar is very powerful ( 70 km ) against Fighter Jets , Attack Helicopters , HALE UCAVs

However, when it comes to modern threats (especially Drone swarms, rapid response and electronic warfare environments), the 4 AESA radars on the GURZ are clearly more advantageous.

GURZ can be more effective against kamikaze Drones / loitering munitions
GURZ has been developed for asymmetric warfare

1 -- GURZ has better detection capability

2 -- GURZ has Active electronic jamming ( jammer ) capability

3 -- GURZ has better fire power ( guns+missiles )

HISAR-A Missile is so expensive ( better to use it against Fighter Jets , Attack Helicopters and Cruise Missiles )

but SUNGUR Missile is cheaper to use against kamikaze Drones

also 35 mm ATOM air burst ammunition is more effective and cheaper solution against kamikaze Drones / loitering munitions

1 ATOM 35mm airburst ammunition easly can destroy 1 kamikaze - FPV Drone/loitering munition

This is war. Things get blown up. I don't really see an issue here.

Apart from that, how did Sudan get this system in the first place? Was this an actual purchase or did we send it for development and data gathering purposes in a real time war environment? I know we did send systems to Pakistan for testing in the past. They did the same in Syria, Ukraine and Karabağ, too. YIHA was matured with major Pakistani input IIRC.

Do we have any background information on how this system ended up in Sudan? Are there Turkish technicians/engineers involved on the ground?

HISAR-A and AKINCI UCAV will be used more effective In the hands of the Turkish Army

Does Sudan have trained Personnel to use these Systems ?

The Turkish Army is fighting with a concept that operates through multi-system integration

The EJDERHA mobile HPeM system into the Turkish Army’s inventory

EJDERHA is aimed at the UAVs, causing a crash by damaging the electric motors or the internal electronics ...... while the rear jammers are used to break the command link between the remote and explosives.

Also EJDERHA is focusing on electronically triggered IED threats with its soft/functional kill equipment.

lol

Hisar is a old design(2010) airdefence system, why people are coming and talking about it? It was never designed against a FPV and never can be. For that ther are a lot off systems that should be send to Sudan.

The Sudanese are using it wrong too, as a standalone with no shorad coverage with GURZ or something designed to deal with loitering munitions and FPVs.

HISAR is designed for Attack heicopters and anti CAS and fighter jet.

How do we know it was an fpv drone? The kind of damage we saw is more consistent with a large warhead.

Also, there was no launch. These missiles will be lock on after launch because they’re canisterised, they weren’t even launched, let alone locking on with an IR seeker.

I think it is more probable the system was taken out by one of the Turkish drones sold to the UAE that found its way to the RSF hands. Probably an Akinci which have been active in the Sudan civil war.

No, according to reports, what the UAE provided to the ISF are the FH-95 and Wing Loong II. And the sight/video frame in this footage looks very much like that of the Wing Loong II.

Weapons in Darfur and Khartoum

On the night of 9 March 2025, the RSF launched a drone strike near al-Malha town in North Darfur, possibly targeting Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Local media and a Sudanese human rights organisation reported that 13 people were killed and several more injured. Amnesty International spoke with four family members of witnesses of the strike. However, Amnesty International was unable to speak to the witnesses themselves because, according to the family members, their relatives were community leaders who were targeted and killed by the RSF after their capture of al-Malha. Amnesty International was unable to confirm this.

By analysing digital evidence of the remnants of the bomb used in the strike, Amnesty International identified the fragments as belonging to a Norinco GB50A guided aerial bomb. Markings on the fragments indicate the bomb was manufactured in 2024. These bombs can be dropped from various Chinese drones, including Wing Loong II and FeiHong-95, both of which are used only by the RSF in Sudan, and have been provided by the UAE.

Bomb fragments in the photographs show distinctive fins and brackets on the tail section that identified this previously undocumented weapon. The well-preserved markings also match reference images of the GB50A, including the font, colour and stencil style.

Sudan used Turkish AKINCI UCAV to hit another AKINCI UCAV which was operated by the UAE with 100 km EREN munition ... first air to air hit in history

This is widely reported as the first confirmed air-to-air kill between 2 heavy class UCAVs

The Wing Loong II does not have air-to-air combat capability, so it will be shot down if it encounters Turkish AKINCI UCAV

The AKINCI UCAV is not a difficult target to shoot down. After Sudan claimed to have destroyed the FK-2000, the RSF announced in March that one had been shot down.
