Turkish Air Defence Programs

Is there a similar system in the world? I don't think there is a system in inventory and in use. I think it will be the first laser weapon system to enter the inventory.
From the looks of it, I assume this is a 5kW laser, Although not exactly the same but India operates (atleast 12 LRiP units) DRDO-BEL D4 Anti Drone System that has a 2kW laser.
Infact during the recent Indo Pak conflict it even downed some UAVs (most likely YIHA III)

A protocol was signed between ASELSAN and the Presidency of Defence Industries for the “V/UHF Radar Systems (ALP 400G) Project”This initiative aims to strengthen our national air defence by developing early warning radar systems capable of detecting low-observable aerial threats like F35As a member of the EIRS family, alongside the ongoing SEIRS Project, ALP 400G will bolster the early warning capability of the Turkish Air Force and enhance the efficiency of our air defence systems

T-HIK(AEWC) and IHA-AEWC is coming SSB and ASELSAN signed a contract for the ‘Airborne Early Warning Radar Development Project’ (ALP200A).The radar system, which will be integrated into manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, will be of critical importance for national AEWC platforms. The critical design will be completed in 36 months and the prototype in 60 months. The radar will be tested with a technology demonstration on a selected UAV

🐉 What is Ejderha?

  • EJDERHA (“Dragon”) is a high-power electromagnetic counter‑UAV / electronic warfare (EW) system developed by Turkish defense firm Aselsan. It is designed to physically disable drones and other electronic systems within its range using directed high‑power microwave energy, rather than traditional jamming.
  • Embedded within Turkey’s “Steel Dome” multi-layered air defense architecture, it functions as an electromagnetic shield capable of permanently disrupting the electronic circuits of UAVs like swarm drones, micro drones, and kamikaze drones as they approach—typically up to around 500 m to 1 km radius.

🔧 How It Works

  • The system uses specialized directional antenna/refector arrays to emit microwaves in single or multiple pulses. These can cause targeted electronics to malfunction, shutdown, or sustain permanent damage.
  • In controlled testing, Ejderha neutralized a formation of 12 drones in under 3 seconds, and handled over 20 UAV types in trials
  • Its targeting algorithms allow precise directionality, minimizing collateral effects on friendly systems while focusing energy on hostile drones

🌐 Key Insights

  • Turkey is the only confirmed country to have fielded a mobile, directional HPM counter-drone weapon (Ejderha) as part of a deployed national air defense architecture.
  • The U.S. has multiple systems with proven test performance (e.g., THOR, Leonidas), but none are yet in full combat deployment.
  • The UK’s RFDEW is advanced but still undergoing trials as of 2025.
  • China and Russia are believed to have HPM efforts, but information is tightly restricted and likely classified.
  • Most other countries focus on jamming, lasers, or kinetic defenses rather than microwave-based hard-kill systems.

we have now 2 Siper airdefence systems and a lot off other stuff. Ther will be a lpt off systems to be delivered coming years. They have build 2 radar factory. So airborn radars on the way.

i was expecting Siper blk2, disappointed.

Air Defense Systems consisting of 47 vehicles and worth $460 million for STEEL DOME were delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces today

-- HİSAR O+ 100 and SİPER Air Defense Systems
-- ALP 300-G / 100-G AESA Radars
-- 7 PUHU 3-LT & 2 REDET Electronic Warfare Systems
-- KORKUT SPAAGs

ASELSAN is also developing artificial intelligence-supported command and control software that will enable all systems in the field to communicate instantly and work in integration with each other.

Hundreds of Air Defense Systems in the field will operate as a single system

This BIG!

This BIG!

Because Turkiye is a big player

Considering the recent conflicts and wars in our region, we have a much better understanding of how indispensable it is to have a strong and integrated air defense system for national survival

and OGULBEY Technology base will increase Aselsan its mass production capacity by more than 2 times for Air Defense Systems
