Turkish Air Force | News & Discussions

Not exactly. Greece has a mixture of second hand and newer Rafales. And Turkey is planning to buy a mix as well of second hand Eurofighters as well as brand new Tranche 4. Also Egypt is not really a hostile state, Turkey has cooperation with Egypt and has even offered the Hurjet to Egypt which has shown interest in many Turkish products.

As the Article states:

"Türkiye plans to acquire a total of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 4 fighters in a 20+20 unit arrangement. These Tranche 4 aircraft, which represent the most advanced configuration of the Typhoon for aerial combat, will be remanufactured. However, Türkiye may also consider purchasing a small number of used Typhoon jets for training purposes, which is still under consideration."
Sorry I was not aware of Turkish plans to buy brand new tranche 4 Typhoons....

Good news is Turkish Typhoons are second hand and hence less life left in air frames.... so they will suffer against brand new Egypt and Greek Rafales.....
you Forgot 5th-Generation KAAN.

Yes its a mixture. The second hand can be transferred immediately while the Tranche 4 production will take time for delivery.

Infact the Tranche 4 production is one of the major reasons that the UK wants to sell to Turkey. Right now, they need Eurofighter production line to be active with orders until the Tempest is ready. But everyone of the main Eurofighter nations already has a significant amount of eurofighters, so they need to generate demand for the production line to stay open. B/c if the production line dies before the Tempest is in production, then there is skill loss and technical capacity loss due to atrophy. So they proposed selling Turkey Tranche 4s as well as giving Turkey second hand jets(so they can also put in orders for Tranche 4 for themselves) and combined, those orders are enough to keep the production line active.

Tranche 4 Typhoons will put Rafales even F4 version at huge disadvantage...... good move by Turkiye.....

Quite common.

been around for decades

Idk how I feel about the C-390 purchase from Brazil. Turkey already has the C-130s and the A-400, adding a 3rd airlift aircraft in addition to the CN-235s.

While the partnership with Embraer is promising, and the right step, not sure buying C-390s makes sense.

Well since Turkey is finished with KAAN stealth plane , I doubt they need a expensive F35, the F35 come with heavy requirement for servicing and follow up updates

A few squadrons of Eurofighter Typhoon (1 to 3) would be sufficient for their needs , in my humble opinion. To supplement the F16 fleet, with option for additional 2 squadrons in future

  • 80 KAAN (KHAN)
  • 40 Euro Fighter, option for another 36
  • 100 F16 C/D active , (100 spare/backup)
Is more then enough setup

Turkey's ties with European Union would be advantageous for them to close the deal on Euro fighter

Eurofighters cost more than the F-35 technically.

No, if they can get the F-35, it makes sense to acquire it, even at the very least it serves as a performance benchmark for Sensor Fusion and Stealth and other things.

I don't think Turkey is interested in acquiring it in large amounts like was previously planned, but a couple squadrons of F-35As, would not be a bad idea. Nor would a squadron of F-35Bs.

But lets see how this plays out. For the F-35A, its a simpler task as the F-35A are already built for Turkey and in storage after the embargo, and just need to be trasferred.

For Turkey being part of Europe it makes sense to have good ties with European Union and France/UK, US may have imposed tariff on Europe but it is chance for Turkey to grow relations / trade more with European nations

Working with in cooperative framework in Europe seems much easier

Eurofighter builds more understanding with Turkey's neighbors
It's logical , instead of F35

Turkey has also unique place being in place where they also have good ties with Asia as well, Obviously Turkey also has fantastic ties with Pakistan and Middle east

KAAN has provided Turkey with the Stealth option that chapter is closed Lessons learned

At one point Turkey invested lot of money and resources into F35 program but it did not quite work out well, F16 still plays a vital role in Turkey
