Turkish Defence Industry - Exports & News

HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar:

Along with the HÜRJET export to Spain, we will also sell simulators to Airbus related to their training.

We have turned the past upside down.

While we used to purchase software and data packages for foreign platforms from abroad, we have now reached the point of exporting them.

The countdown has begun for UAV production in the Baykar and Leonardo partnership!

Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani announced that they are ahead of schedule in the medium-class UAV program being conducted with Baykar:

April 2025: Assembly and production of the first UAVs will be completed at facilities in Italy.

Scope: Not just fixed-wing, but rotary-wing platforms are also on the way.

Capabilities: Swarm operations and landing/takeoff tests in special conditions will be conducted in the coming months.

Goal: Serial production and global sales in the hundreds following a one-year testing process.

The world's most advanced expertise in unmanned systems, rooted in Turkish experience, is hitting the field with Europe's defense giant...

This partnership should get around the Greek embargo on direct Turkish defense sales to Europe that use EU funds to purchase.

Now to find an Eastern European country to build a factory to do Land Vehicle sales in Europe and Aselsan and Rocketsan products.

Maybe someone like Romania or Hungary.

Ideally it should have been Albania, but they aren't EU yet.

We already have, Otokar did buy Romanian company Automecanica S.A..

Yeah I know but I thought they were manufacturing only for romania, did they say they will export from Romania?

I believe Baykar is also setting up a factory in Morocco. I don't like the Kingdom for political reasons even though we've a good relationship. I prefer Algeria but, unfortunately, the Algerians are not economically integrated to global trade as Morocco.

yeah same, prefer Algeria as well.. lol, Merzifonlu is the odd one out.

With regards to Morocco though, its not for export outside of Morocco, but domestic production, unless I'm mistaken.

The reason the Italy partnership is special and not just b/c of the tech collaboration with leonardo, but b/c the system can be sold inside the EU as Italian product and bought with EU funds, and the money going to Baykar.

Turkey's main exports are Drones for Air systems currently, and Land vehicles(which I think in Oubulious is correct about the Romania partnership, Turkey should be able to manufacture in Romania and tap the same EU fund money).

The Aselsan and Rocketsan products would be tricky though. And Aselsan is where most of the money comes from in exports.

I would also prefer Algeria. After all, Barbarossa Hayrettin Pasha was the Sultan of Algeria. Morocco, on the other hand, has always kept its distance from us. However, in the Algerian-Moroccan conflict, Morocco is the rightful party. Regardless of my personal feelings, this fact remains unchanged. In a matter between Pakistan and India, even if Pakistan were in the wrong (it wouldn't be in the wrong, but let's say it was), I would still support Pakistan to maintain solidarity. But I cannot do that between two Muslim and brotherly countries.

Türkiye Secures Landmark Hürjet Export Deal with Spain

Türkiye's defense industry reached a historic milestone with the export of TAI's Hürjet jet trainer to Spain, marking the first sale of a Turkish combat aircraft to a NATO and EU member country.

Havelsan will supply full mission simulators as part of the comprehensive package, reversing decades of Turkish import dependency, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkish media.
Türkiye's defense sector has secured a landmark agreement to export the domestically developed Hürjet jet trainer aircraft to Spain, representing the first time a Turkish combat aircraft will enter the inventory of a NATO and European Union member state. The deal encompasses not only the aircraft but also ground systems, simulation technology, and long-term sustainment services.

Simulator Development and Export Milestone
Turkish defense firm Havelsan will supply the full mission and flight training simulators accompanying the Hürjet, with delivery to the Turkish Air Force scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026 ahead of the Spanish export. Havelsan General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar described the agreement as a major turning point, noting it reverses a long-standing trend where Türkiye imported such simulators. "Havelsan has now developed the capacity to design and export comprehensive simulator software," Nacar stated, adding that the company plans to apply the same model with other Hürjet purchasing nations.

Technical Capabilities and Future Prospects
The Hürjet's next-generation embedded simulator enables pilots to train in virtual scenarios during actual flights, extending operational training time without relying on ground-based systems. Havelsan engineers contributed to the aircraft's engineering tests and cockpit validation over three years, applying the same approach to Türkiye's KAAN combat aircraft program. The company is constructing a new complex in Ankara expected to become Europe's largest simulator production and integration center. The Hürjet is scheduled to enter service in Türkiye in 2027 and in Spain in 2028, with Nacar projecting growth in Havelsan's global market share as TAI expands international sales of platforms including Hürkuş and Atak aircraft.

ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol:

▪️In the last 3-4 years, we have shifted from land-based electro-optical systems to airborne systems. The added value has changed dramatically.

▪️Previously, when we entered a tender, we had 17-18 competitors; now, only a few companies can stand against us.

▪️While we were a company developing conventional radars, today we are developing GaN-based AESA radars. This is an area with very few competitors in the world.

▪️While we had low-altitude systems in air defense, now we are mass-producing medium- and high-altitude systems.

▪️We employ nearly 10,000 engineers. The amount we allocate to R&D is 1 billion dollars.

▪️We don't leave developments in the lab; we definitely deliver them to the end user.

▪️Feedback is very important; we have operations analysis boards and more than 2,000 field teams.

▪️Pakistan wants the GAZAP bomb from Turkey.

▪️They aim to import it from us and attach the GAZAP to cruise missiles called BABÜR.

▪️Pakistan plans to destroy airbases in India with GAZAP.

▪️A thermobaric warhead means this: It's a different type of bomb that burns up the oxygen in the air in the area where it's dropped at an extremely rapid rate, leaving no living being alive there, but at the same time, it's not in the chemical or nuclear category.

Not sure who made up this rumour but id love to hear the logic behind this.

How do you intend to fit said bomb into the babur. How do you also intend to design a system for it to mate to the missile without giving away details of our nuclear warheads also

Turkey will design the warhead apparently.

The person who is commenting is connected to the Turkish defense establishment and in the know. Apparently an order/request came in.

Not sure if it will be the Babur in its current configuration or a modified missile, but they want a non nuclear theormobaric bomb option for taking out airbases apparently.
