Türkiye restarts F-35 fighter jet negotiations with US while refusing to give up Russian S-400 missile system

If ther was no war in Ukraine and Iran these people would still hostile against us.

Indeed, the Ukraine war is what changed their calculation, before that, they were treating Turkey like Iran.

What is the point of F-35 as it cannot be used against Zionist entity and maybe even Greece? ...
Says who?

And why would a military power like Türkiye would even consider buying an aircraft that it could not "use"?

Turkey bought S400 and many of us were like what the hell............

then they sold off S400 lost years in the F35 programme and bought Typhoons for a ridiculous price

in the meantime indigenous projects showed great progress and seems like things were back on track

and now F35 is being procured

in my opinion another disaster in the making

stick that money into the indigenous pipeline to speed up Kaan

these continuous U-Turns are taking Turkey in circles

These 6 F-35s are already paid for.

I think Türkiye needs the F-35 now. Kaan will take time to mature and operationalise. At least another decade to get to the point where maybe you would be comfortable to use it in combat against F-35s.

The S400 procurement I would label(imho) a strategic mistake relative to keeping the commercial interests in the F-35 programme as a whole, and the military capability that the F-35 itself offers. I think (imho) Erdogan's ego got the better of him and that Türkiye is paying a price for that.

That mistake is being countered with what can be described as an emergency procurement of the Typhoon and attempts to re-inter the F35 programme at least for procurement. I am not sure how well Türkiye will do to re-enter the commercial / manufacturing part of F-35 given how many F-35 have been produced now, the bulk of which was without Türkiye.

Türkiye needs to address the capability gap in the airforce relative to Israel and relative to a combined force of Türkiye + Greece given that Türkiye has been labelled as the next problem for "Israel" and the geo-strategic mistakes moves being made by both countries.

F-35s are needed for NATO missions and naval aviation. Eurofighter Typhoons will continue to serve in NATO missions as new aircraft even as the oldest F-16s are gradually retired. Combined with the newest and modernized F-16s, they make for a solid fleet.

I don’t think we can use KAAN for NATO missions, and it isn’t compatible with the B61 nuclear bomb. It never will be, since the US won’t allow it. So we need the F-35 for NATO, as well as a low-end aircraft to complement it.

It’s ridiculous how people act as if buying F-35s and Typhoons means we’re throwing KAAN and our other projects in the trash. Türkiye is economically capable of making these purchases while continuing to develop and produce its own aircraft. The TAF wants them, the government buys them. It’s that simple.

The only downside is that we can no longer remain a production partner. Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about that.
