Unprecedented Floods Fuel Bangladesh-India Tension

Like it or not, it was a significant event removing your maid servant. We can take care of ourselves.

Just don't get in the way.
First learn to run the nation properly.... Bangladesh is one of the most floods prone country and till date you don't have any floods disaster management system....
What you will do is only blame India and cry like victims....

In your place if today there was a country or people like Chinese, Koreans, Singapore or Israeli by now they would have found a solution instead of keep crying and blaming others to hide own failures....

The easiest solution to flood control is to build reservoirs and levees/river embankments. I am not sure why Bangladeshis won't build them

Corruption and incompetent policy makers. Take your pick.

Ziaur Rahman in 70s had done that with Canal development project countrywide. No other government really followed it through. Instead we see people illegally encroach river during dry season and over time the rivers got narrower. Many rivers have died down in the last century because of land grabbers. These need to be recovered for water to flow naturally again.

Another thing we need is regular dredging to maintain river depth. The huge amount of silt that flushes downstream builds up quickly if dredging isn't done regularly.

It sounds like a good starter plan

The age of the Bangali nationalism is now officially over, thanks to Bharat's proxy rule and oppression via their slavishly pet and utterly corrupt killer Banagli nationalists....

Ignoring your underlying racism and perhaps even cowardice, I would stick to facts and what should be sound governance.

Sardar Uday Raihan, an executive engineer at the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre in Bangladesh, told Al Jazeera that the agency usually gets information about rising water levels in rivers in India twice a day.

“However, this time, India did not share any updates. Without accurate information, it’s hard to give an accurate flood forecast,” he said, adding that timely warnings could have helped prevent deaths and damage.

According to the United Nations International Watercourses Convention, an upstream country must discuss with the downstream country for constructing infrastructure on the common rivers. If an upstream country constructs infrastructure that causes harm to the downstream country, it is required to provide compensation for any damage. India has provided neither. And Bangladesh never really challenged it.

That being said, yes we did cry for the young unarmed boys are girls who were killed and maimed for life by the security forces. And guess what? We kicked out a tyrant who had unconditional backing from your country. And that itself is an achievement and exemplary courage.

We should all thank you for showing us who you really are and what you are all about ranging from the head of state to specimens like yourself.

Now, let us heal ourselves, and do not get in the way.

Bangladeshis somehow believe if they lie a hundred times it will become a truth

The next time Chinese build a dam on a river heading for Bangladesh let me know

India slams US media's 'factually incorrect' report on Bangladesh flood

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday dismissed a US media house report holding India responsible for flood situation in the neighbouring country of Bangladesh. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the claims made in the report are "misleading" and "factually incorrect".

"We have seen the (US media house) report on the flood situation in Bangladesh. Its narrative is misleading and suggests that India is somehow responsible for the floods. This is factually not correct and ignores the facts mentioned in the press releases issued by the Government of India clarifying the situation," Jaiswal said.

"They have also ignored that we have regular and timely exchange of data and critical information between the two countries through existing joint mechanisms for water resources management," he added.

The report claimed that dozens of people in Feni -- which is only a few miles from the Indian border -- have blamed New Delhi for releasing water from the Dumbur dam in Tripura state with no warning.

"Bangladesh lives on its rivers and waterways — its people relying on the vital life source for fishing and farming rice paddies. The country is also well-acquainted with flooding and cyclones — especially in recent years, as scientists say human-caused climate change exacerbates extreme weather events. But this flood took them by surprise – and people here blame officials in India," the report claimed.

"They opened the gate, but no information was given," the report quoted an IT worker who returned to his hometown from the capital Dhaka to volunteer in rescue efforts as saying.

Bangladesh is currently facing a harsh monsoon season that has severely affected over 18 million people. According to the United Nations, more than 1.2 million families are trapped due to the widespread flooding and relentless rains.

"Over 18 million people in Bangladesh have been affected by severe monsoon conditions, with more than 1.2 million families trapped as flash floods submerge vast areas of the country's east and southeast," UN News Service said in a post on X.
