US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

El-Syed is a socialist democrat "Mandani Type" but with more traditional establishment roots. He is the far-left version of Shabana Mahmood or, more closely, the lefty version of either Priti Patel or Suella Braverman.
That explains a lot. Thank you 🙏

That's basically how populism works.

You don't need to be capable; you only need to feed on the incapability of the other guy, hence the term "Make it into a popularity contest"

As soon as we enter this contest, we are basically voting in the downward spiral. Because you weren't elected because of the policy you had, but you are simply not the other guy and the other guy is not with you.
You are right, Trump when he first come down from the elavator he thought he would run for the presidential race with little to no hope to win, hence he just keep saying wildest things on TV, cartering to racist and Xenophobic tropes, 4chan conspiracy theories, for him it was just some fun time, i doubt he even thought that he will become the republican primary in 2016, and Hilary's primary doesn't help with the situation either and rest is history.

Trump is populatist maybe but he is definitely at this point become a cult leader, his supporters which are very vocal in various tv shows and street interviews gives very cult like vibes, you can ask 5 of his supporters regarding one issue and you will get 5 different justifications, everything he does is already justified even if it goes against the values these republican trying to build their politics on. From Releasing Epstien files to mocking Islam over the treatment of women, when Trump can go around call women names like Fat, Ugly, miss piggy and Grab them by the &ussy, he can mock disable people, veterns, deny his loss in 2020 election, claims fraud without a single shread of evidence but his supporters don't care, Trump to me is not just a bad leader its just the man has not a single decent bone in his body, he is just outright pathetic low class failed businessman with a potty mouth, hence he decided to run as republicans he knows that how dumb the avergae republican voter is, in his own words... he said i can shot a guy in the middle of street and his people will support him, he also said i love the poorly educated, which is very evident from his supporters, he also said that he can said the dumbest thing and yet his crown will cheer him and they even did (facepalm moment).

It is still a mystery to me that how come a Country like United states of Fcuking America, not one but twice elected this cheap, incoherent potty mouth indecent human being, it still boggles my mind to this day, i can expect such leadership in some 3rd world country but from America? Still unbelieveable.

The great documentary film maker Ken Burns is calling this the 4th major crisis facing America. Perhaps a hyperbole but the Congress abdicating its authority in last few decades and the Trump II Presidency acting like a dictator like never before does make it a very important Midterm elections.

There have been three great crises in American history: the Civil War, perhaps the defining event in our history after the Revolution itself, the Great Depression and World War II. These events tested our republic and our resolve in fundamental ways, but the center always held — elections took place, there was a peaceful transfer of power and the judiciary was still independent. Our core democratic institutions remained fundamentally strong, respected by the public and our leaders alike. The guardrails of our democracy held and were even strengthened as we emerged from each.

As we go to the polls today in this most consequential of midterm elections, we face our country’s fourth great crisis. Because of misinformation, which the current administration encourages, age-old fears and conspiracies have created a sense of us versus them that is fundamentally at odds with a healthy democratic society. Elections are in doubt, the highest court seems compromised, history has been distorted, books have been banned, and dictators have been coddled while our closest allies have been ridiculed and dismissed. People are rightly concerned whether our institutions are at a breaking point.
