US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

El-Syed is a socialist democrat "Mandani Type" but with more traditional establishment roots. He is the far-left version of Shabana Mahmood or, more closely, the lefty version of either Priti Patel or Suella Braverman.
That explains a lot. Thank you 🙏

That's basically how populism works.

You don't need to be capable; you only need to feed on the incapability of the other guy, hence the term "Make it into a popularity contest"

As soon as we enter this contest, we are basically voting in the downward spiral. Because you weren't elected because of the policy you had, but you are simply not the other guy and the other guy is not with you.
You are right, Trump when he first come down from the elavator he thought he would run for the presidential race with little to no hope to win, hence he just keep saying wildest things on TV, cartering to racist and Xenophobic tropes, 4chan conspiracy theories, for him it was just some fun time, i doubt he even thought that he will become the republican primary in 2016, and Hilary's primary doesn't help with the situation either and rest is history.

Trump is populatist maybe but he is definitely at this point become a cult leader, his supporters which are very vocal in various tv shows and street interviews gives very cult like vibes, you can ask 5 of his supporters regarding one issue and you will get 5 different justifications, everything he does is already justified even if it goes against the values these republican trying to build their politics on. From Releasing Epstien files to mocking Islam over the treatment of women, when Trump can go around call women names like Fat, Ugly, miss piggy and Grab them by the &ussy, he can mock disable people, veterns, deny his loss in 2020 election, claims fraud without a single shread of evidence but his supporters don't care, Trump to me is not just a bad leader its just the man has not a single decent bone in his body, he is just outright pathetic low class failed businessman with a potty mouth, hence he decided to run as republicans he knows that how dumb the avergae republican voter is, in his own words... he said i can shot a guy in the middle of street and his people will support him, he also said i love the poorly educated, which is very evident from his supporters, he also said that he can said the dumbest thing and yet his crown will cheer him and they even did (facepalm moment).

It is still a mystery to me that how come a Country like United states of Fcuking America, not one but twice elected this cheap, incoherent potty mouth indecent human being, it still boggles my mind to this day, i can expect such leadership in some 3rd world country but from America? Still unbelieveable.

H.L. Mencken

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
(From A Little Book in C Major)

The great documentary film maker Ken Burns is calling this the 4th major crisis facing America. Perhaps a hyperbole but the Congress abdicating its authority in last few decades and the Trump II Presidency acting like a dictator like never before does make it a very important Midterm elections.

There have been three great crises in American history: the Civil War, perhaps the defining event in our history after the Revolution itself, the Great Depression and World War II. These events tested our republic and our resolve in fundamental ways, but the center always held — elections took place, there was a peaceful transfer of power and the judiciary was still independent. Our core democratic institutions remained fundamentally strong, respected by the public and our leaders alike. The guardrails of our democracy held and were even strengthened as we emerged from each.

As we go to the polls today in this most consequential of midterm elections, we face our country’s fourth great crisis. Because of misinformation, which the current administration encourages, age-old fears and conspiracies have created a sense of us versus them that is fundamentally at odds with a healthy democratic society. Elections are in doubt, the highest court seems compromised, history has been distorted, books have been banned, and dictators have been coddled while our closest allies have been ridiculed and dismissed. People are rightly concerned whether our institutions are at a breaking point.

My answer is, "Why would I? I would be out of a job if there were no more crime"
If Trump fixes everything, then there is no more need for him (However absurd) to be in charge........

Something like that happened to me: Deadline for a software engineering project was cut shorten despite the agreed proposal timeline. I am a workaholic so decided to wrap up while killing myself overworking. I got axed as soon as the project was wrapped up. Wifey had warned me that would happen. Haha.
But I think in case of the political leadership--especially at the very top--it is often different: They want to have their 'legacy' and maybe even be seen on Mount Rushmore.

great post and I agree with the last part about leaving a “legacy”.

I think it's pretty clear by now that Trump doesn't really care about his Legacy.......I mean, do you still believe he is doing it to get on Mount Rushmore? Well, probably a picture of him being hung on the public bathroom in Mount Rushmore National Park, maybe; he wouldn't do half of what he did if he wanted to even have a legacy to begin with.

But then he always said he is not a politician, probably the only true things he had ever said........

Yes, I believe even Trump--or especially Trump--would care about being on Mt. Rushmore or winning the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the ultimate Narcist. But wanting something and not getting that are two different things.

I Interviewed Haley Stevens at 11 PM on Her Fiancé’s Couch. Here’s Why She Broke with Abdul El-Sayed.

Her interview with Anderson Cooper is embarrassing. I almost felt sorry for her.

It is easy. The Dems handed him both elections with their choice of candidates and Comey helped out a bit the first time.

If Trump is doing things with good intention but having a bad result, sure......But was he really what he was doing?

Trump is a classic narcissist, him being supreme is by default. He doesn't need to show you he is superior to you, because he knows it to be true, which is the reason why his policies make no sense to the majority of Americans, because he wasn't doing it for Americans; he is doing it for himself. If he has any sort of legacy, that would be it.

He doesn't want to be on Mount Rushmore; he thinks he deserves it, same thing with the Nobel Peace Prize. And that's genuinely what he thinks, even though he did zero to achieve that, because he thinks he is better than everyone. You line up all the Nobel Prize winners to him; he is going to say he is better than all of them, same with all the presidents on Mount Rushmore. That's not a legacy..........

Legacy is what everyone thinks of him, not what he think in his mind what everyone think of him............

Forcing a Venezuelan nobel prize winner to share her prize with Trump maybe his legacy :) his melt down over not winning the prize this year was priceless, and simply pathetic. He later even said that Norwagian people/immigrants are not welcome to US lol
