Without the official text being released, it is unclear how exactly the deal differs from a 1951 agreement with Denmark, under which the US can send as many troops as it wants to Greenland.Under the 1951 U.S.-Danish Defense of Greenland Agreement, the U.S. could establish and operate agreed defense areas, construct and operate military facilities, station personnel, and use the areas without paying Denmark compensation. The agreement explicitly said this did not prejudice Danish sovereignty.
What Trump stated is just rehashing what's already on paper without any specifics, and making broad-stroke statements.
In the end, it's a waste of everyone's time.
The US already has more than 100 military personnel permanently stationed at its Pituffik base in the north-western tip of the territory.
