US Economy - News, Updates and Discussion

Needed to make a run down to PHX today. Price of gasoline averaged $4.95 everywhere I went. Diesel was hovering at the $6.00 mark and above.

The truck stop in Oklahoma I work at:

$3.19 gasoline

$4.92 diesel

Our diesel haulers are on mandatory six days, fourteen hour shifts.

Just looked up Oklahoma City, still $2.97 a gallon for regular. Been trying to tell others to fill up, our prices will not last.

Then add in people fleeing California.

I wonder why that it?
Can't do it roots go very deep here in San Diego/Chula Vista something drastic change would have to take place to get me to move to.... hell I haven't put any thought to which state I'd move too.

Californians are leaving in high numbers, primarily for states offering lower costs of living,, such as Texas, Arizona, and Nevada, which consistently rank as the top destinations. Other popular relocation spots include Florida, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Key drivers for this migration include high housing costs, taxes, and a desire for different political environments.
Public Policy Institute of California +4

Top Destination States (Recent Data):
  • Texas: Consistently the #1 destination for departing Californians.
  • Arizona: A top-three destination, highly popular with families.
  • Nevada: A major destination due to proximity and lack of state income tax.
  • Florida: Gaining popularity for its lifestyle and tax benefits.
  • Washington: Attracts residents, particularly for economic reasons.
  • Idaho, Oregon, and Tennessee: Also popular choices for those leaving.

Key Factors Driving the Exodus:
  • Cost of Living: High housing prices and taxes are the primary factors, say Public Policy Institute of California and Pods.
  • Remote Work: Many individuals, representing a significant portion of departures, are taking advantage of remote work flexibility.
  • Quality of Life/Safety: Concerns about crime, politics, and natural disasters are frequently cited, says Wikipedia and Pods.

  • Demographic: Middle-income families and those seeking more affordable housing are the largest groups leaving.

The problem here with the Californians is they bring the same stupid politics they left behind over here.

Down in PHX, half the metro area is a liberal mecca. TUS is now referred to as SFO, AZ.

Yeah, it's that bad in Tucson.

Tariff refund: Trump to begin refunding $166 billion in tariffs starting Monday - check who is on the list

Will consumers receive money from the tariff refund Trump program?

The tariff refund Trump payouts go directly to businesses that originally paid the tariffs. Companies are not legally required to pass refunds to customers who paid higher prices. However, firms like FedEx have indicated they may return funds where tariffs were collected directly. Broader consumer refunds will likely depend on ongoing lawsuits and company policies.
