To avoid massively going off topic, my last post on this topic. I would say the USN does have peers, Russia and China in their own backyard can take on the USN. You could argue Russias war with Ukraine has effectively ended that for now, but the Chinese have the ability to sink US carriers.

It is certainly possible to disable an A/C and take it out of the combat theatre, but actually trying to "sink" one is very difficult as demonstrated during SINKEX exercises of trying to sink USS America(CV-66) in 2005.
