THINK TANK: CONSULTANT
One word, I think. I usually got knocked out early in the spelling beeWhile the NYC Mayor's exposure is not particularly significant, he won't be able to solve anything beyond providing people with free bus rides and possibly better community services, which would be it. Still, that post would serve as a stepping stone for Mandani for the Governorship (Is it one word or two words? Anyway...), and then the change would be very different for him. It really depends on his popularity by the end of his term. Most likely going to be on how he deflects attacks from Trump.
In terms of the roadmap for the Democrats nationally, I have no doubt they are watching 2 events for sure. How Mandani brings the shift toward socialism, and how Newsom goes with 2028 Olympics, both event would have a major shift on economic policy and weirdly both going on a different direction, but it would nonetheless as a stepping point toward either a more conservative spending policy (ie Newsom, Beshear type leadership) or more progressive type leadership (Omar, AOC and Bernie). Probably this is the (or at least one of the) reason why Dem still refuse to have a valid leadership.
True, Dems are letting Zohran do his thing as a canary in a coal mine and seeing how he deals with Trump. The governorship could be on the cards if he really does a great job. Winning over the NY suburbs and Albany. But most expect a rough start with Trump testing his medal soon enough and often.
Ironically, I think the 2028 Olympics will be an albatross around Newsom’s neck. He will be scrambling to get that ready as well as del with the challenges of his state.
Dems can’t sit on the fence for long. They will needs a midterm strategy early next year and after that a 2028 strategy no later than mid 2027 to have a chance to build momentum on a narrative.
Btw, here is an interview with Gov. Hochul, from today, on “Trump-proofing” the state, as the title says, not the Governor.
