This letter from the Assistant Attorney General was written two weeks after the riots.

AI Overview

In June 1943, white workers in Detroit factories protested the promotion of African American co-workers by stopping production:

White workers' actions: White workers intentionally slowed production and went on strike to protest the promotions.

Black workers' experiences: Black workers faced racism on the job.

The 1943 Detroit race riot was a result of a number of factors, including:

Racism

African Americans faced discrimination in housing, employment, and rationing.

Social tensions

The city was experiencing a dramatic population increase and social tensions related to World War II.

Housing shortages

There was no space to expand African American neighborhoods, and the city tried to build a Black housing project in a White neighborhood.

Migrants

Nearly 400,000 migrants from the Southeastern United States competed for jobs and space with city residents.

The riot began on the evening of June 20 and lasted into the early morning of June 22. It left dozens dead and many injured. The riot was so brutal that President Franklin Roosevelt sent more than 6,000 U.S. Army troops.

[AI gets this last part totally wrong, see Assistant Attorney General's letter above. The real reason federal troops were brought in, a general strike in Detroit would have caused Germany to win WW2.]

Operation Wetback reached it's peak in 1954 with over a million deportations, many were US citizens. I do remember reading somewhere else, the total being 4.5 million.

United States immigration enforcement actions (returns and removals), 1940–1960, data from Dept. of Homeland Security.

Note: It was the wealthy in Mexico, needing the return of it's cheap labor force to grow the Mexican economy, who first initiated this program.

I recommend you read the entire article because when Trump gets back into office, we are likely to see something like this again

But she [America] goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. She will recommend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example. She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign Independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force. The frontlet upon her brow would no longer beam with the ineffable splendor of Freedom and Independence; but in its stead would soon be substituted an Imperial Diadem, flashing in false and tarnished lustre the murky radiance of dominion and power. She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit.
-John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the United Sates

Check out the private prison stocks GEO and CXW. They have been going straight up since the election.

I would like to buy the dips but there really hasn't been a good entry point. Wish I had thought of them shortly before the election.

GEO group inc. is based out of Florida but Core Civic Inc (CXW) is up over 2% today.

Poll: Republicans reverse views on economy and election fraud after Trump’s win; much smaller shifts among Democrats

Story by Andrew Romano. 19h

In the wake of Donald Trump’s 2024 victory, huge numbers of Republicans who previously believed that the economy was “getting worse” and that U.S. elections are not “free and fair” no longer believe those things, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

Democrats have moved in the other direction on both questions but to a much smaller degree.

The survey of 1,612 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Nov. 14 to Nov. 18, found that fewer than half of Republicans (48%) now say the economy is getting worse. But immediately before the Nov. 5 election, nearly three-quarters of Republicans (74%) said the economy was going downhill.

That’s a sudden 26-point shift.

Meanwhile, a mere 13% of Republicans said in a December 2021 Yahoo News/YouGov poll that the 2020 election — which Trump lost to Joe Biden, then tried to overturn — had been free and fair. Last month, just 27% of Republicans predicted this year’s contest would be free and fair.

Yet now that Trump has won, a full 89% of Republicans say the 2024 election cleared that bar

Economy on track to keep growing despite eighth straight decline in key gauge

Story by Jeffry Bartash. 1d

The numbers: The leading indicators of the U.S. economy fell for the eighth month in a row in October, but there’s still no sign the current four-year-old expansion is in trouble.

The leading index dropped 0.3% last month, the Conference Board said Thursday, largely because of higher jobless claims, fewer building permits and a decline in manufacturing orders.

Yet while the gauge used to be a pretty reliable measure of the health of the economy, it hasn’t been very useful since the end of the pandemic.

The index has fallen in almost every month since early 2022, even though the economy has continued to expand at a robust pace. For the time being, economists are no longer putting much emphasis on the report.

Key details: Seven of the 10 indicators in the survey were negative in October, one was flat and two rose.

Big picture: The economy has proven to be very resilient and has grown steadily over the past two years despite higher interest rates and lingering inflation. The outlook for the economy in the short run is also positive.

Market reaction: The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 rose in Thursday trading.

Call me cynical but at this point I am looking forward to the cries of the goofy "moral" jill army and trumpers that are going to suffer the most, be it economy, deportations, or Healthcare
Without a doubt, his policies, particularly those pertaining to mass deportation and trade wars, may soon negatively impact the poor and middle class who supported him. I also hold the Biden administration accountable for its handling of inflation, particularly for its failure to educate the public about the global nature of this economic issue.

However, I hope that his policies do not lead to a significant economic downturn that could impact all of us.

Freaking barbarians. But what’s wrong with you, your claim reinforces racial prejudices by making a simplistic generalization. One runs the risk of oversimplifying intricate social dynamics and promoting division rather than understanding when they isolate a particular problem and extrapolate it to a whole demography.

It is important to understand that people make decisions based on their own experiences rather than innate racial traits.

Furthermore, these kinds of generalizations have the potential to strengthen systemic racism and provoke negative prejudices.

Here is a short example to illustrate my point of view: all of these white men killed cats in a cruel and barbaric manner:
