Not quite correct. A number of states now have it in statute that it is expressly forbidden to ask about a person's immigration status. Some of those states now forbid any cooperation whatsoever with ICE. California happens to be one of those. New York is another. The Cities of Boston and Chicago are other examples.You are mixing two things I believe. Per my understanding laws have changed. Police used to only ask for ID's as in drivers license. Now they can ask about your status also. If in doubt, they can details you to the police station until you meet an ICE person.
Secondly, it's actually a universal law. When any country's immigration raids a place, drivers licenses are meaningless. Their direct question is about your citizenship and if you have documents to prove it.

MSM is too lazy to head out to places like Jerkwater, KS or South Corn Cob, NE. The big cities are where it's at.Yesterday, Caney, Kansas (small town at Oklahoma border) an idiot a friend of mine works with tried to interfere with a traffic stop of an illegal. Got himself thrown to the ground and arrested.
