USA Weather Alert and Warnings Thread

Immigrants, unless they have to 'support' someone, are some ghetto, unimaginative people!

It all depends on the skill sets they have available, including whether their previous professional qualifications or training is recognized here. The ghetto aspect comes in by virtue of the cheapest (shared) shelters available, often by relationships or word-of-mouth.

To stay on topic in this thread, weather and climate become only a secondary consideration. For all the talk here brought in by the winter season this time around, in major cities, it is not too hard to stay relatively comfortable despite the vagaries caused by weather, and these interruptions tend to be short-lived mostly.

Pretty heavy snowfall here. Beautiful!!! The temp was -4 C outside the house this morning and tonight supposed to drop to -12 or even lower. But not complaining as long as we have the power!

sell the property and buy house North of Pakistan ...in the mountain.
Honestly, in my last trip, I found Pakistan to be quite a livable country!! Maybe because of getting 'old', maybe the US retirement $$ would go a lot farther in Pakistan... regardless, if one is into climate/weather, then Pakistan has it from Miami to Fairbanks in just 2-3 hours of flights and all in between!!

A more permanent settlement there, and you would need to evaluate law and order, personal security, and health care, particularly emergent. Then the climate advantages begin to fall a wee bit short.

Yes, those are the considerations but my mom is 85 year old and many others I know are well into their 70/80s living well enough. The law and order is bad in Karachi, my home city, due to the petty crimes there but I felt absolutely no threat in Baharia Town Karachi nor in Skardu nor in Lahore.
The crimes in Pakistan are mostly petty crimes and no surprise the huge --too huge population-- and the violence in the border regions of Baluchistan/KP are seriously a concern due to geopolitics, and I would not want to live in those places anyway, even if peaceful, due to their 'culture', or lack of thereof.
However, kind of have to agree with you about the 'healthcare' in Pakistan: It seems like only 1 in 5 doctor there knows what they are doing, looking at the younger deaths in my circle in Pakistan. The lucky ones like my mom and many others are the lucky ones.

Exactly. For security, one would need to confine oneself to certain areas. And develop the necessary contacts for good care paid for in cash, usually upfront.

Even for the climate, much of it will require reliable sources of energy, which means installed and maintained by one's own resources, something most Americans take for granted by virtue of the great networks here.

My coworkers in FLL are convinced the glaciers are just up the road a bit at the moment.
Honestly i don't blame them, it doesn't feel like Florida here...you know how they say in NY? "Hey, I'm walkin over Yere", its like that but " am Freezing over yere ".

What is at my house today. No neighbors. Woods for hundreds of feet. The temp has already dropped to 20 F per a thermometer outside my house right now.
Ain't it a Winter Wonderland?!!

That indeed looks nice. Even better, it's at your house and not mine.

LOL.

Exactly. And why we planned accordingly with the soon-to-be under construction new house.
