USA Weather Alert and Warnings Thread

Comparatively speaking, Texas is not that bad off. Most of the outages likely in the DFW area and north.

Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee are having a rough go.

Lately we got first cut of snow. Town people are working hard. Snow is ongoing process, non stop.

In Dallas all ice. Roads are really bad.
Not surprised.

It was maybe 2 years ago now, I was there for the better part of a week. Was warm most of the week (considering it was early December). The night before I left, it started to rain then turned to freezing rain. The next morning after that, the city was pretty much shut down due to snow and black ice.

Welcome to North Texas.

I really question why immigrants choose to live in cities like Dallas and Houston!! The 'Desis' follow $$ all the time and to be in their 'own' communities too much and live in such horrible places where it is nasty winter and nasty summer! OMG!

Even 'tiny house' is very expensive these days. But RVs are pretty cheap--so I have been looking at 'stationary RV' living to downsize to near the street. Shouldn't be more than $25-30k total because the land will not have to paid (about 1/3rd of an acre would do).

Never heard of a coyote attack in our area but they do attack and I think killed at least one woman in Canada. And with the habitat being reduced, they are desperate for any 'meal'. We keep axe and strong sticks here and there in case of attack. I am also thinking about some pepper spray or some other small protection and maybe upgrading my .22 rifle.

I am a Karachiite like you! I am too lazy for wood burning fireplace but once or twice had to during very cold weather in power outage; it was a matter of survival!
Yeah that 25-30k sounds about right, I was looking into Trailers and found some as cheap as 10k with a double bed and 1 bunk bed, with a small cooking area/fridge and a bathroom. So if you have a budget of that 25-30k you can buy that, I think you can even get those container home or even a single wide (used).

Well I was told by my in laws that Animals roam in SC country side, and after that boar encounter I was careful, also once my ex Father in law killed a black & yellow color snake from front yard, that was around 1-2 feet long. Plus he was fully locked n loaded haha lots of guns in that house, all types. Rifles/Shotguns/handguns/sniper. I am to this point not a gun fan, nor I have any plans to own one as of now, I may go to shooters world, or some range to shoot one under proper supervision then see how that goes. But living in isolation you have to prepared for all situations including bears/humans and other wild animals.

Yeah I can see that in winters people are generally more lazy lol let alone going out cut some dry wood. It took me 2 hours to drill 2 holes in my apartment wall to put a curtain rod hahaha living in Karachi ruined me where you just pay small amount to labors to do stuff for you, here you have to do everything yourself unless you are richie rich. In a sense its good because you learn to use a lot of tools and do things which you would never do yourself in Pakistan.

Houston will also get both. I've been there when it's 100F and 90% humidity and then when it's freezing.

Lots of high tech jobs in both cities. That's where the money is. Not in Odessa or Fredricksburg.

Never be ashamed of living in modest housing! Never be in keeping up with the Joneses. Never be in debt. And try very hard not to rent unless you in a transient situation. And avoid nasty climates where the summer is too hot and humid and winter is too cold. Following the $$ just might be good for a few years to suffer such nasty climates but IMO the climate we live in are a part of our very being!

I just finally, gingerly, ventured out the house because birds and squirrels coming to feed but not finding anything. It was very cold and I am always too vain to ever wear a warm cap or any cap! Haha! The shed door didn't open despite multiple attempts until I grabbed a rake and deck brush to break and push away the ice. By then, my fingers froze and by then a fresh round of freezing rain pummeled my head. Haha!
Anyway, I fed the critters, used the rake as the skis to walk into the house and immediately asked wife to start hot water or something because I could barely feel my fingers--they were wet and cold from 19 F windchill. She started the hotwater.
You can also see my backyard in the pic. Literally hundreds of feet of nothing but woods.
