Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

America 'safer' and 'prouder' today - Trump

BBC

All political and military figures in Venezuela should understand that what happened to Maduro could happen to them, Trump says.

"Venezuelan people are free again," he adds. He also says America is a "safer" and "prouder nation" today.

He then hands over to Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who begins by describing the operation this morning as "a massive joint military and law enforcement raid, flawlessly executed".

Maduro "had his chance, just like Iran had their chance", Hegseth says, but adds that he "effed around" and found out.
A coworker of mine fled Venezuela during the Chavez years. I need to reach out to him to see what his plans are now.

The President is not Jewish.

I disagree.

A man who allows his children and grandchildren to grow up Jewish is practically a Jew.

Our very own prime minister is married to a Jewish Israeli. He keeps that quiet. When asked if he is a Jew himself he denies it, but then says my children follow Judaism. That's what matters.

Sneaky isn't it?

I know you mean "extortion". Exactly like Maduro.
Dear, many countries have taxed imports. How is Trump wrong to tax imports? It is a sound policy to convince various companies to invest in the country instead of focus on imports. I wish Pakistan could do it.

I know a few immigrants from Venezuela here in Norway. They all hate US with passion.

I seem to recall Obama doing similar. Perhaps a bit more polished but similar.

Then, let's not forget the epic carrier landing and "Mission Accomplished" moment.
Well, excluding that Osama Bin Laden was a terrorist and number one enemy of US. He made the biggest and blodiest attempt in the US soil.
Maduro was, at best a puppet from Russia and China. And all military operation was, indeed, a performance, unlike assassination of Bin Laden.
I am eager to read your justification when his tenure reaches the end. Mr. Goëring will do something "very strongly".

And a declining power that picks fights with impoverished third world countries to continue feeding an out of control MIC and to prove to itself it's still somebody. Meanwhile American public lives with poor healthcare, poor economic prospects and poor infrastructure.
We're learning to become a 3rd world country.

Many here seem to equate the ability of a nation to do something with the legally determined (or otherwise) right of a nation to do something. These two descriptors of a given activity are independently variable.

My take on the Venezuela situation.

🔹Those close to Maduro was in on it with the US. Venezuela never went through a total revolution to oust comprador elements from within.

🔹Maduro did not expect the US would so blatantly disregard international law, decorum and the whole basket of international norms.

🔸Outside of American vassal states, the entire world watched this blatant violation of every international norm set after WW2.

This is actually worse than what the US did to Iran, at least in Iran's case, some can brush it off as military action between states.

But you cannot brush it off when the US literally kidnapped the head of state of a UN member country.

🔸This is basically the end of the US led global rule of law narrative.

I would put Putin on a pedestal if compared to the Orange Madman! He is a disgrace to the great nation of USA.
He's still my President and you're simply angry because he's not a big fan of Modi.

Bro,
Tesla have over 60,000 local employees in different facilities across the US. SpaceX have over 12,000 local employees in different facilities across the US. You are correct to point out that Elon Musk have created H1B1 jobs. You are also correct to point out that Trump's tariffs have affected some industries and reduced job opportunities in them. Trump's tariffs have also increased house-building costs. However, Trump have convinced many companies to invest in the US and create new jobs in the US by extension. He aims to expand American manufacturing in the long-term although there might be contraction in the short-term. Trump have also promised to reduce house-building costs in 2026.

The latest survey showed a weaker gain in production, amid a renewed contraction in new order books – the first in exactly a year. International sales continued to fall, in part linked to tariffs, which also continued to push up operating expenses at an elevated pace. That said, although remaining historically elevated, both input and output prices rose at their slowest rates for 11 months. Positively, firms reported that employment growth was sustained into the end of 2025, with job creation reaching the most pronounced since August. Confidence in the outlook also remained positive despite easing slightly since November. (S&P Global)

Generation Alpha is facing the problems you mentioned around the world unfortunately. Some of the problems continue since Biden's term but Trump needs more time to address them. I think it is early to judge Trump's plan. The MSM is also more critical of Trump's term not realizing that a profound shift in economic plan will affect some industries and employment in the short term.

Musk is actually a genius entrepreneur unlike Trump. Even he has to thank Democrats and US government for funding his enterprise granting tens of billions in funding and tax credits to incentive purchases of his product.

Now he is supporting Trump to cut government funding in many areas but keep it for his Tesla enterprise of course.

Manufacturing is more automated than ever it's never coming back. Even US manufacturers like GM and Ford only keep such manufacturing jobs to stay on good terms with the government and receive government subsidies like tax incentives, grants, loans, etc .... Those jobs are there due to Unions and US manufacturers two sided relationship with government. So each US administration can say they created jobs because those voters are important for them.

Under Trump manufacturing jobs are being lost due to his tariff wars. It's not because of him that some manufacturing is being brought back to US it's because of COVID:

Why these sectors are struggling
Economists point to a variety of factors for the pressure on blue-collar jobs, including trade policy, high borrowing costs, automation and a shortage of skilled workers.

Although high tariffs on US imports are designed to reshore manufacturing jobs to America, that can take time – if it occurs at all.

“Reshoring doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t even happen in six or seven months. It takes several years,” said Michael Reid, senior US economist at RBC.

Trump has slapped tariffs on critical imports US manufacturers need, including steel, aluminum and copper.

Uncertainty over trade policy and rising prices on imports that blue-collar workers use to make goods are hurting demand for workers.

“When input costs go up, one of the easiest things to do is to cut labor,” said Reid.
