The issue here is that not much you can do with Maduro, even if you capture him, he probably had a second in command in line, and he will just take over, unless there are already enough forces on the ground to force a coup, I just don't see this happening. Maybe the US tried to drop a rock in the ocean and see how deep it was, and hope someone steps up? I don't know.

There is no way this worked without inside help. I think a deal was made with Venzuelan elite behind Maduro's back in order to avoid a war. Now that Machado lady will be installed as the new puppet in Caracus.

Venezuela is better off with someone pro U.S. even if they are puppets. No more sanctions and they will finally be able to refine and sell their oil. Those sanctions crippled their economy and severely hurt the people.
