Hoa Phat is probably one of the top 2 or 3 biggest private companies of Viet Nam, it is doing very well for both its shareholders and the construction industry. But Hoa Phat is basically a construction steel company; it has no R&D to research into high-strength steel that can be used for other civilian industries (like diesel engine) or military applications. Our high-strength metallurgy research will rest solely on the shoulders of the military

According to its website, Hoa Phat, aside from construction steel, like rebar, also produces engineering grade steels, like JIS S45C (in Vietnam, it is popularly referred to as C45), which can be used to manufacture automobile axle shafts, drive shafts and transmission components, or low stress engine crankshafts, and other engineering components.

According to AI answer, Vietnam is one of dozen countries who are capable to manufacture steel used for automobile tire bead wire, thank to Hoa Phat. Vietnam is the only South East Asian country capable to produce such steel.
