Walmart just leveled with Americans: China won’t be paying for Trump’s tariffs, in all likelihood you will

It will take manybe 5-10 years but anyway a lot of these factories would have moved away from China as Chinese labour costs are rapidly rising.
China can bring down the costs further by currency manipulation.

The need to diversify supply chaiins was well felt dhring covid times.

Rising costs in China might have added fuel to this.

China is the last country in the history that labor cost still matters in manufacturing, the time the robot is taking over while China happens to be the king of industrial robots too.
Interesting developments.
Once that happens, every country is a competitor to China. Especially Japan and USA.

China wasn't a low labor cost country for quite a long time already

Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed common misconceptions surrounding the tech giant's decision to manufacture in China, offering insight into the real reasons behind the company's reliance on the country.

Contrary to the popular belief that companies flock to China for cheap labour, Cook said that this narrative is outdated. "The popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labor costs. I'm not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is China stopped being the low labor costs country many years ago," Tim Cook stated, clarifying that the decision to manufacture in China is driven by a different set of factors.

Cook highlighted the unparalleled concentration of skilled labour in China as the primary reason for Apple's manufacturing presence there. He elaborated on the advanced tooling and precision required to produce Apple's products, noting that China's vocational expertise in these areas is unmatched globally.

"The reason is because of the skill, the quantity of skill in one location, and the type of skill it is," he explained. "The tooling skill is very deep here. In the US, you could have a meeting of tooling engineers, and I'm not sure we could fill the room. In China, you could fill multiple football fields."

Oh come on. The Asian communities per-se are always hard working.

Once Taiwan used to be a manufacturing giant and Japan before that, just like what China is today.

Tim cook can't openly say the real reasons for theor choice publicly. "Industry centric labour laws".

You can't lock a person for 14 hrs a day in a company anywhere.

By the way, Wal-Mart, more than any other corporation, has gutted out our small towns.

It will be a great day when they go bankrupt.
Good to hear this from a ultra-capitalist state citizen (supposedly).

But not gonna happen anytime soon.

China basically owns the supply chain from beginning to end. Build a entire eco system. Not every country in china's surrounding or far away can simply replicate that.
Give it time, they will. China isnt the firat manufacturing powerhouse of the world.

Wishful thinking

Vietnam's manufacturing industry is currently highly dependent on China's power supply.
For the time being.
If the relationship between Vietnam and China deteriorates, China can find a reason to interrupt the power supply to Vietnam.
Then you give them a reason to find another seller or improvise to become nuclear may be.

Despite six years of US tariffs/export controls, China is cementing its position as industrial hegemon.

The story is as old as times.

Lol, what's good for American consumers ? Good luck to make manufacturing move back to US by imposing 60% tariffs if it works.
Can you comprehend ?
60% tariffs on China and 10% tariffs on ROW
Do you even understand how the economy works? Chinese exports did not go down, it was exported in the form of components to Europe, India and SEA. US economy did not reduce imports, they increased. Did the factory return to US? No mate, it went to India and SEA, and guess what genius, your prices increased. Tariffs only works if you are protecting certain sectors and local industries. If you don't even have those industries, no jobs will be created, just higher prices.

Lol, the main target is China on 60%, you think imposing 10% tariffs on other counties will make companies move back to US ? Dream on, you know what are the costs to operate factories in US.

From when do @ety and @Beijingwalker care about America or Americans ?
