This really breaks it down when all.logic argues go from 220 Tejas mark1a fighters between now and 2035 ...to straight on to Amca

Why the Indian mod the gap/DRDO and all else feel Tejas mark 2 has to be developed ... It makes sense now

Why Not

1- Keep Developing MK1A and upgrade it time to time.
2- Skip MK2, TEDBF etc.
3- Engage France for a mega deal for:
- A- Rafale local production in number.
- B- Support and Tech Transfer for developing AMCA till 2035.
- C- Partnering in FCAS right now with option to use some of it's tech in AMCA.

Save time and by 2050 India will be atleast 10 years ahead then current timeline. India do have money but time can't be bought from money.

Trying to make sense out of Indian defence development and procurement is an exercise in futility.

Rest of the world :
1. We need to buy a gun.
2. There is a gun which we can afford.
3. We buy the gun.

India:
0. Game Changer! Game Changer! Game Changer!
15. What is the Gun's caste?
2. We will buy a gun.
1. We needed to buy a gun in a war 30 years back.
3. Rat horse mole tiger peacock.
9. Modi! Modi! Modi!
4. Atomnirbhar Russia!
7. We got our arse handed to us by a bunch of 3 year olds sitting in their prims.
11. Tendulkar! Tendulkar! Kohli! Kohli!
14. But Saaar! What is the Gun's caste?
5. Emergency! Emergency!
10. Uh Oh! Our gun shoots backwards!
13. Modi! Yogi! Modi! Yogi!
27. We should just use the guns we have now but add a rattle on it and paint it orange.
17. SAAAR! WHAT IS GUNS CASTE! I STILL DONT KNOW!
19. "Oh! You hold the gun this way? With barrel facing the enemy? Thank you Saaar!"

MK2 will replace Mirage 2000, Jaguars and Mig-29
MK1A and MK1B will replace Mig-21

India really should just give up on the Tejas, learn from it's mistake and use its gained knowledge to devote itself on the AMCA. By the time the MK2 comes out, it will already be obsolete.

Even Pakistan is debating if it wants to move on from the thunder project after (maybe) another block.

The Tejas really should have been adopted with its original specs with upgrades occurring over the decades after it's full adoption. Now it's too late, and (in my opinion) obsolete.

by that logic, Rafales and Eurofighter Typhoons would be even more obsolete. And I won't even get into the F-16, which Indian Air Force deemed obsolete 15 years ago during the MMRCA 2008.

What if Made in India Rafale will replace Mirage 2000, Jaguars and Mig-29?
HAL Chief mentioned in an interview that Tejas MK2 is a crucial stepping stone toward the AMCA. advanced technologies incorporated in Tejas will directly contribute to the development of AMCA. naval version of Tejas is being used as a technology testbed for TEDBF
HAL isn't creating a showpiece propaganda fighter jet like the KAAN; they're developing a genuine 5th-generation fighter jet that will take its first flight with all systems integrated, just like the Tejas did in 2001. After that, it will undergo further modifications, testing, and certifications before entering production. As stated by the IAF Chief in his official press conference, this will be a real 5th-generation fighter jet, comparable to the F-35 or F-22.

I mean, the Rafales and Typhoons have been in large scale active service for a very long time and slowly and actively developed AFTER being inducted. The Tejas can't say the same. The comparison is bad.

Still, the typhoon and Rafale are on the verge of becoming legacy fighters, so they're definitely close to becoming obsolete. Same with the F-16s.

Bilkul yaar! Manned air power now on a fast track to obsolescence. Countries have already quit buying tanks because $500 dollar Ali baba FPV totally disables a $2 million dollar tank bhai and then 2 more cheap ass FPV’s come flying in and you can’t even retrieve it for repairs. 😝

Next are big capital warships on the road upto the scrap heap.

Then manned aircraft.

Namaze janaza in order.

You are so naive, off course HAL will talk nice about Tejas Mark 2, they are selling their product .....

If you cannot build Tejas you won't build the AMCA. Am I missing something ?

India is doing the Right Thing by going in For Tejas MK 2

We also need a Large number of SSMs And ALCMs like Brahmos , Rampage , And Our Indigenous Rudram Series of Missiles

Stealth or Fifth Generation are very High Maintenance planes with a lot of Down Time

We need planes that can carry out Surge operations and 3 sorties a Day which Tejas Can do and has performed during Intense Exercises

If SU 57 is available we can go.for it since AMCA will take Time

Surface to Surface Missiles and Killer Drones can make up for Lack of Fifth Generation planes
