Jakarta – The 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards have been announced, with Indonesia securing a place among the winners in the prestigious global tourism awards’ list of the world’s best countries.

(CNN Traveller) is one of the world’s leading and most influential luxury travel publications, with editions based in the United States and the United Kingdom. Each year, it organizes the Readers’ Choice Awards, a prestigious tourism awards program in which winners are selected directly by travelers, according to CN Traveller.

The Best Countries in the World 2026 category recognizes destinations based on several quality indicators, including culture, culinary experiences, infrastructure and transportation accessibility, local hospitality, safety, natural beauty, and outdoor activities.

Readers’ reviews are converted into average percentage scores, with the results determined entirely by travelers’ votes and assessments. The awards are widely regarded as credible because they reflect the actual trends and preferences of modern travelers rather than selections made solely by an internal panel of magazine judges.

Greece was named the world’s best country in 2026, receiving a score of 98.14 out of 100. The destination has attracted record-breaking numbers of tourists.

The country is home to picture-perfect Santorini, mythology-rich Mykonos, and the vast island of Crete, where the wine industry is experiencing a revival. Its collection of dream destinations continues to expand as more visitors discover the relatively unexplored Paros, car-free Hydra, mysterious Ios, and windswept Tinos.

Meanwhile, Indonesia ranked eighth with a score of 93.75 out of 100. CNN Traveller said Indonesia’s inclusion was unsurprising given its extraordinary natural beauty. What surprised the publication instead was that Indonesia had been absent from the awards the previous year.

According to travelers’ reviews, Bali remains Indonesia’s tourism hub, offering everything from holistic jungle retreats to backpacker havens and fashionable beach clubs. However, as increasing visitor numbers contribute to overtourism, other Indonesian destinations are beginning to attract greater attention.

Komodo National Park, Raja Ampat, and Lombok were among the destinations that helped Indonesia return to the prestigious ranking. Improved access through international flights was also highlighted as one of the country’s advantages.

2026 Mandalika MotoGP Attendance Surpasses 157,000 Spectators

Sunday, October 11, 2026, 6:29 PM WIB

Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir revealed that attendance at the MotoGP event held at the Mandalika Circuit from October 9–11, 2026, exceeded 157,000 spectators.

“This year's event achieved its best results yet. Attendance surpassed 157,000 spectators, proving that sporting events can generate tangible economic benefits for local communities,” he told reporters at the Mandalika Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Sunday.

He emphasized that the strong public enthusiasm demonstrated how international sporting events could serve as engines of regional and national economic growth. According to Erick, the economic benefits of the world-class racing event were directly felt by surrounding communities. The poverty rate in areas near Mandalika was claimed to have declined significantly, by nearly 3 percentage points.

“The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara and local communities are also delighted with the success of this year's event,” Erick said.

Erick expressed confidence that the Rp5 trillion economic impact and spending target set for the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP would be exceeded.

“I am confident we will surpass the Rp5 trillion target. The governor is happy, the people are happy, and the poverty rate around here has fallen by nearly 3 percentage points. Going forward, MotoGP must continue to improve,” he stressed.

According to Erick, this year's MotoGP success presents a new challenge for PT InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to expand Mandalika's sporting facilities and further strengthen its position as a Sports Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Erick wants the Mandalika area to feature a wide range of integrated sports facilities, including golf courses, jogging tracks, and tennis courts.

“After all, this is a Sports Special Economic Zone. It should have golf courses, more hotels, jogging tracks, tennis courts, padel facilities, and even a bonded zone for racing cars,” he said.

He added that all the achievements and evaluation findings from the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP would be reported directly to President Prabowo Subianto to help determine future measures and policies for similar events.

I am sure it must be nice to be away from all the wars and conflict zones, tucked away on a side, blessed with plenty natural resources (fertile land, water, agriculture and seafood) and good people who care about the country and nicer neighbours.

good development and good environment for family and business setups. Too bad indonesia doesn't have migrant program! lolz
