Most Americans today couldn't go more than a couple of hours without their smartphones.America has had it easy man because you been living on a continent away from Eurasia. China in middle part of 20th century lost 30million to Japs then 50million to famine and walked out of it like a stroll through a park. Do you think America can hold its sh1t together if it loses people on that scale?
I am not saying Iran or Yemen could put that level of pain on America but to say America is untested and having never endured real hardship is a reality.

Still, as posted, my parents are Depression Era so that means they also experienced WWII. That would be the last time Americans, outside of the 9-11 tragedy, experienced losses on a considerable scale. Oh, and let's also not forget our own Civil War.
So America is definitely tested. It just needs a reminder every now and then that getting too soft is not a good thing.
