Why do so many Indians get so defensive and anxious about your neighbors wanting to have closer relations with other countries ?

Why do so many Chinese have such a morbid interest in India's neighbours? Dont you have your own neighbours who are at your throat?

Those countries in South Asia are not under the exclusive rights of India. They are free to join any associations they want, so Chinese have an interest in their aspirations, so what.

China is a neighbor to South Asia and many of those countries, Chinese are not complaining others interests.

Who said that geopolitical location doesn't match? If our neighbour Myanmar is a member of ASEAN , indeed Bangladesh also can be a member!

It's necessary for us to counter Indian dominance!

It is more geopolitics reason than economic consideration considering BD needs to compete with other ASEAN nations and apply ASEAN FTA as well (reduce tarriff)

Because they are going to lose their dominance over Bangladesh ; their last stronghold in this region. The wet dream of becoming akhanda bharat is under serious threat!

Joining ASEAN will not magically transport BD to Southease Asia.

Trying to replace India with ASEAN is utter madness!

I have explained why this is not viable and will face massive backlash.

Literally millions of people make their living from directly trading with India.

Almost none of them have the means to do this with Pakistan - let alone Indonesia and Malaysia.

Of course, this is just meaningless postering like 99% of the stuff IG has done to date.

All its going to do is add to the red tape and tension - result is runaway inflation as we are seeing.

Bangladesh has 180 millions of people, hence a huge market. So indeed we can offer many things! If plane fare is reduced , many people even can visit Malaysia and Thailand for medical tourism. Also from Bangladesh people visit chennai , valor to get better health care. Although the overwhelming majority go to kolkata ; perhaps because of land border!

So indeed if plane fare is reduced , many will go to these countries.

Bangladeshi people love to spend more money than saving it. So why not we spend it to another country than kolkata markets?

Now India is only the beneficiary of it.

Nobody wants to add a largely resource scarce region to india. That too around 180 million people (not known to be very resourceful either)if you were like 40-50 million I'd support your argument and think yeah India is trying to usurp BD but 180 mil? No way

China does does not even share a border with Bangladesh. LOL! Yup China is a neighbour of Bangladesh. Use a map sometimes. LOL!

What geopolitical importance? You're partially land locked by india and Myanmar. With one you have a hostile relationship the other you're itching hard to get on the bad side.

You were important like 20 years back when BNPs promised to help North East terror groups. Their downfall and the Hasina governments overturns helped you maintain a good relationship and a steady growth on the back of cheap imports from India. India largely solved it's communist terrorism in W.Bengal and NE militancy. You are as important as Myanmar. Rather Myanmar need more attention from a security perspective.
