Yunus seeks Malaysia's support for Bangladesh to become ASEAN member

Bangladesh has 180 millions of people, hence a huge market. So indeed we can offer many things! If plane fare is reduced , many people even can visit Malaysia and Thailand for medical tourism. Also from Bangladesh people visit chennai , valor to get better health care. Although the overwhelming majority go to kolkata ; perhaps because of land border!

So indeed if plane fare is reduced , many will go to these countries.

Bangladeshi people love to spend more money than saving it. So why not we spend it to another country than kolkata markets?

Now India is only the beneficiary of it.
By all means! go spend more money elsewhere! Go do... lets see... Burma? May be?

Or where else? China may be? Airfare itself will be high enough that none of the so called "heavy spender" Bangladeshi will try going there.
Try Singapore?
Or Kualalumpur?

LOL!
Lets see Dhaka to Shanghai return airfare is 450 US dollar.
Dhaka to Singapore is 550 US dollars.

Thats more than what one person coming from BD spends in India on a vacation.

Meanwhile Dhaka to Kolkata return bus ticket is 35 or so USD. LOL!

Do try it.

And no, you can never reduce airfare enough to compete with a Bus ticket of lower distance.

Cost of travel and immigration documentation is a huge barrier. Add dietary and clothing habits as well.

Due to proximity, diet and customs - India is accessible to 10s of millions of people for trade and tourism.

East Asia would only be accessible to 10s of thousands. Even less - if we take IG’s view of actual GDP and currency reserve.

Apparently, both were overcooked by Hasina and actual number is half lol lol

Let’s take them at their words.

It means BD’s GDP per capita is significantly less than India’s. Hence even less attractive to east Asia as a trading partner.

That's the definition of disinformation. IG never said, actual GDP is half.

I mean, you are so desperate to get validation from somewhere that you are now just making stuff up to please Indians.

You lot have been peddling articles, written by some of the key characters of the IG, making those claims.

Own your lies and propaganda - don’t try to run away from it!

@LeonBlack08 you see how he is now outright making stuff up and then telling me to own my lies and propaganda?

India is a threat to South Asia, it's as simple as that and if South Asian countries value their freedom and independence then it's vital they limit contact with India to the absolute minimal that can't be avoided.

Seek support from China

Work together with the rest of South Asia to counter India

And like Bangladesh is doing try to partake in alliances and groups away from India

The sanghis are a clear threat and India cannot be trusted under any circumstances

What geopolitical importance? You're partially land locked by india and Myanmar. With one you have a hostile relationship the other you're itching hard to get on the bad side.
well maybe surrounded three sides by india? Again you should learn geography , so you should know that you only can pose a military thread effectively from rajshahi to jessore border and part of satkhira . Sundarban is actually a natural defense for Bangladesh. It's same for the border with NE!

It's not easy to launch an all out attack for India other than that mentioned border area!

I won't go for detail. Help yourself.

Now let's talk economy. As far I know, most of our trade are via sea route ; maybe 80% or even more. We have the bay of Bengal. And our navy is capable of defending our sea route.

About miyanmer we will settle with them. You don't have to be worried, just you should be worried about your own internal problems.

China does does not even share a border with Bangladesh. LOL! Yup China is a neighbour of Bangladesh. Use a map sometimes. LOL!
Lol, I am talking of other countries such as Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan, they are concerned parties too. Plus, BD is close enough to China, so.

Provide proof.

Also provide the exact source where the IG claimed GDP was half.

If you can't, stop spreading misinformation.

Rest of your rambling is laughable. How do you propose joining ASEAN when you're hostile to it's own member state.

I know the article is a few months old, but I still think it deserves a thread. It's fascinating to see how this is progressing, and it genuinely seems like the intentions are legit, especially with Bangladesh also reaching out to Indonesia for support. @Indos

Bangladesh is a neighbour of Burma and it would be welcomed if they could get ASEAN membership....
i would personally favour it :coffee:

It's mainly because of cultural ties. SEA countries are somewhat similar in culture, food, religion and even the way they look. BD is solidly a south asian desi country. They want to associate with culturally similar countries. Sort of like how the EU is the union of white Christians.

i would say, Bangladesh share racial as well as cultural similarities with ASEAN nations.
its fair to give a place to Bangladesh in ASEAN (y)

Are you making a case for NE subcontinent to join ASEAN or for Bangladesh to join ASEAN

NOt making any case for either.
Just showing that NE subcontinent due to geographical proximity, historically had close interaction with South China and SEA, and present day Bangladesh happens to be situated in NE Subcontinent.
