Is it me or I would’ve thought Pakistan would attempt to develop their own attack helicopter even if it’s some kind of split with the Chinese in the beginning like with the jf 17

UAV/Drones are the future and Pakistan is investing in that capability thankfully.

Really? Does anyone know why?

My thought is Field trials and tests prior to the full batch. The last 3 Z-10s were sent with an entire book worth of change requests and this one needs to be proven as well before the batch comes through.

Not abnormal - partly also because you cannot simulate Pakistan’s environment in China. Especially the desert and its demands.

Happy to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable.

What for?
This has been and still to a large extent is Pakistan’s procurement motto - “build only when nothing is available off the shelf or when there is a risk of sanctions”

they tested it in Xingjiang, a place with vast area of desert.

Still not the same
Xinjiang's average annual temperature (10–15°C) is considerably lower than Cholistan’s average (28.33°C), with Cholistan regularly exceeding 45°C and sometimes reaching above 50°C during droughts and unlike Xingjiang - Cholistan is almost entirely flat, predominantly sandy desert, and subject to intense wind erosion

Are these helicopters in pakistani service or have they been retired?

The Pakistan Army Aviation Corps has deployed newly procured Chinese Z-10ME-II attack helicopters to participate in the Raad ul Fatah combined arms firepower exercises, marking the aircraft’s debut and allowing them to demonstrate their considerable close air support capabilities. Staged at the Tilla Firing Ranges in Jhelum
