If Indian armour isn't rolling, the need for gunships does not top the list.Pakistan is having Z10ME or Z10ME 2?
It’s plausible only if there isn’t an active threat to the helicopter from across the border (both from SAMs and A2A missiles from fighters). We had C130s getting locked by SAMs and radars staying off for fear of ARMs so using a helicopter would also put it in the line of fire. Moreover it’s a rather expensive way of dealing with a problem which was shown to be handled by much cheaper means (AAA and Jamming). It will be interesting to know which of the weapons PA bought along with it. This pic shows quite heavy / longer range arsenals like CM-502xx. and air to air missiles.

Primarily, these gunships are to be used in combined arms in fullscale war ops but I think they can have a role in limited conflict like what happened few months ago for hunting drones (with its guns and all air to air configuration). e.g. that Israeli Harop drones which india used in last conflict.
What do you think for this secondary role @Lion
40 examples as a minimum are required for operations against militants. Subject to how many Cobras are maintained and operational.Every tool has it's use, even if some tools use overlaps other tools, their are times when a specific tool is the correct tool for the job at hand
We need drones
We need FPV drones
We need EW and multilayered A.D
But I can see the utility if these helicopters on both borders against both terrorists and India
The only question I have is how many we need, I think traditionally anything between 40-80 would be respectable
But today, I'm not sure we need that much, and I'm not sure how many we have ordered or will receive
I think about 40 seems right, considering the size of our country, our enemies and the length of time these will serve (decades I assume)
I also hope our cobras or what's left of them can be used in Balochistan and Waziristan to provide quick support to our forces during attacks or COIN.
Unless they are dangerous to use, a helicopter gunship is the physical stamp of dominations to get the terrorists running,
The status of Z-10 in PLAGF is similar to that of J-10 in PLAAF.A pairing of the WZ-10 with the WZ-21 would be interesting for sure as it will be an integrated battlefield solution!
Good Lord, can we PLEASE-PLEASE close this Topic (temporarily).
Its truly become one of the most sad and pathetic Topics for Years now (going all the way back to [PDF 1.0].
If PA is inducting new attack helos, then they are anticipating a wider conflict including land forces next time around
If Indian armour isn't rolling, the need for gunships does not top the list.
With your logic , once India moves the Tanks and APC , we should twiddle our fingers and order the helicopters at that point
Yeah..., and not a moment too soon.I agree with you. But look, we finally got them! Took what? Only like 22 years? Not bad........? (pun intended).
