I’ve been to Japan for work and honestly found them to be some of the most polite and hospitable people I’ve ever met, they go out of their way to help you even though most barely speak English. But a friend of mine and his wife, who are Muslims, had the complete opposite experience. They felt the Japanese were cold and unfriendly. I’m not sure why our experiences were so different, I wonder if his wife’s conservative attire, like the head covering, played a role.

Exactly, it only seems to apply as long as the tradition and faith in question are Islamic. Everyone else is expected to drop their own beliefs and culture if they clash with Islamic values. How dare they not, right? How dare the Japanese not allow Islamic burial practices, even if their own culture sees them as unclean or unacceptable. And apparently the Japanese are expected to accommodate these customs even though Muslims aren’t native to that land and make up barely 0.3% of the population. Imagine the demands if that number were 10%. No wonder the Japanese prefer to keep it low, even though they’re willing to bring in people from other parts of the world in much larger numbers.
