Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves on Earth. Bigger than Saudi Arabia. Washington wants that supply under a friendly government.
If Maduro falls and a pro U.S. leadership takes over, sanctions end, and Venezuelan oil floods back into the market. Prices could drop 10 to 20 dollars a barrel just on expectation alone.
A new government means Chevron, Exxon, and Shell rush in. Production jumps from under 800k barrels a day back toward millions. The more supply, the lower prices, and less power for OPEC.
When you hear talk about “restoring democracy,” remember the motive. It is usually about oil. If Venezuelan supply pushes global prices down, it also hits Russia and Iran who rely on high oil revenue to stay afloat.

In the military, you are required to PID (Positive Identification) your target. In the old days, if this were me in Iraq or Afghanistan, I couldn't order a strike when I just said "Oh, they had 3 powerful outboards and 55-gallon drums and no activities." All these, like you said, are speculation. I was once denied a fire mission request when I saw muzzle flashes from the AQI in my direction. The reason, you don't know whether or not they are all insurgents, and you can't even know for sure you are being shot at (Yes, muzzle flash coming in my direction is not good enough).
If you ordered that strike, you need to be sure, especially a primary strike like that without any risk to US personnel, if you order that strike with this type of proof and there can be speculation with your order, well, I can tell you this: if this were me, I probably would have been court-martialled a long time ago.

Meant to come back to this yesterday. Regardless of your like / dislike of the current administration, US foreign policy has been inconsistent for many years. Too many instances of yesterday's foe being today's friend, today's friend may become tomorrow's foe.
Depends on which party is in charge and what the underlying objectives are. And those are subject to change.

Just stop. Seriously. Just stop with the conspiracy theories. The US giving $40B to Argentina is in no way related to whatever action that may be occurring in Honduras. The US gives millions and billions to many nations including those who aren't exactly friendly to us. The only reason this is even of concern is because of the Democrat shutdown of the government for 40+ days. It was just 8 years ago when Congress, controlled at the time by the Democrats, said we didn't have the money to fund wall construction along the southern border yet there was money to fund stupid stuff all over the world.
And while no way related to this thread, as I've said in the Epstein thread, if there were any photos of the President in the files that could be used against him, the Democrats would have released them 4 years ago.
