USA Rethinking the India-Pakistan Dynamic.

Does anyone really think trump is running things at a whim?

This might be the best pay op off all time

Look think tanks who make real decisions or shape policy were speaking of this before trump got elected, the US had an approach of strategic altruism ..... Let's take a calculated bet with India basically

Trump is merely the vehicle the shift is being delivered from, and he adds his own style
Great words of wisdom. Yes, the USA is going through a major policy and execution shifts. They are pragmatic folks. When stuffs don't go as planned they let them go as if that didn't occur at the first place. Reminds me of a judgement from a divorce court: this marriage is now annulled as if it hasn't taken place!!!!

The USA has no historical baggage. Some folks tend to forget it.....

Right but way more than that. It seems true that CPEC is not delivering as much as its promised potentials, yet!, but if you go back to 2015 then you'll see that at that time 'No One' wanted to invest in Pakistan but the Chinese massive investment not only ended the investment draught but also created enough noise for the non-Chinese investments, which, as I see it, is bound to rise a lot after the recent India-Pakistan military conflict.

BTW, one can't just say that motorways and energy projects are not going to yield substantially--they do and they already are. During my recent trip to Pakistan, I saw a lot of economic activity even at 2 AM in and around Karachi during my last trip because the motorways are acting as the arteries for economic growth.
Some folks don't understand the mindset of the Yellow folks. After working for around 3 decades under them in engineering R&D I have learnt the following:.
- If there are N number of ways to accomplish a task, they will try all of them.
- They are patient. They won't just let you go off the hook. They will bug you till you finish the job.
- They take ownership of their teams. A failure of a team member is like a shame for the whole team.
- For them seeeing is believing. You have to have proper data to convince them. No subcontinent type cleverness works with them.
- Etc.

Bolded part: Brilliant!
Believe me a quarter century ago, I had said similar things to a friend of mine who was a coworker.

Thank you for sharing that. I have no such experience but you sound right considering how 700+ millions have been pulled out of poverty in China considering where they started in 1949. I have a lot of respect for them!!

Thank you sir, the USA indulged India to win its confidence, remembering before this century india had a bad half century in the cold war.

So it had to be the long game, the Americans knew it, and India used this against the Americans..... You are not enticing us enough ....again and again.

But you can only wait for so long, and when it became clear that India will always maintain its main attack posture against Pakistan, and not jump into the American ecosystem it really wont threaten China too much, jaishankar openly conceded this.

India is more useful as a global back office and Pakistan is seen as a more credible military partner, in large part because it consistently has had some engagement, for good or for bad and therefore is willing to actually lift a finger

CPEC is nonsense. This is not a loan. China loans itself. So CPEChas not generated any jobs, any real economic activity. On top of that, only benefit to Pakistan is "transit" fee! So yeah, Pakistan now owes China billions and may be in future it will earn some "transit fee". Benevolence of China, no doubt. That CPEC infra won't be good for anything else since no one is propping industries in Pakistan.

According to guy, "sea" is too far!
China has signed cooperation documents on jointly building the "Belt and Road" with more than 150 countries and over 30 international organizations, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important part of the "Belt and Road" initiative. If there were no benefits to be gained, would the leaders of these more than 150 countries and 30 international organizations all be fools?

Let's look at the facts. In 2024, freight trains from China to Europe via Poland reached 15,000 trips, generating transit fees of 600 million to 900 million euros, providing a sustainable source of revenue for Poland. The China-Europe freight trains have fostered a complete logistics ecosystem in Poland, with value far exceeding the direct transit income.

Creating jobs and income
The freight forwarding industry has grown rapidly: for example, AsstrA, which entered the freight train business in 2015, saw its business volume increase 20 times, its staff grow from fewer than 100 to over 1,000, and its annual revenue exceed 500 million euros. And this is just one company.
Coordinated development of road transport: the "last mile" delivery of train cargo relies on road transport, with a related annual growth rate of over 15%, creating more than 50,000 truck driver jobs and helping multiple Polish transport companies expand internationally.

Affordable, convenient, and fast transport attracts investment.

Concentration of manufacturing investment: TCL Group invested 200 million euros to establish a TV factory with an annual capacity of 3 million units; companies like Midea, Great Wall, and Geely have also built factories, forming a complete industrial cluster.
Aggregation of e-commerce distribution centers: Alibaba, JD.com, and other e-commerce giants have set up European distribution centers of over 500,000 square meters in Poland, capable of processing hundreds of thousands of orders daily, enabling delivery to major European cities within 24-48 hours.

China-Poland trade volume has grown from 15 billion USD in 2013 to 40 billion USD in 2024.

It seems that Indians do not understand that transportation costs are part of the cost of goods. With roads, a large number of jobs and opportunities are created. People around the roads can shift from agriculture to industry, entrepreneurship, transportation, and services. Farmers’ land prices and wages rise, living conditions improve, and local products gain a competitive advantage in exports.

Ah, 15 years spent and 15 more spent just to build roads for mines, right? LOL.
India's Tejas fighter jet development began in 1983, with the original plan for its first flight in 1990 and entry into service in 1995. However, the first technology demonstrator only took off in 2001, and it was officially commissioned in 2016, resulting in a development cycle of 33 years. Nevertheless, by 2025, the technology of the Tejas fighter jet was still immature.

By 2025, the time taken for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects was less than 30.3% of the time taken to develop the Tejas. In 2014, India collaborated with Japan to build a railway, a project that started earlier than CPEC. The railway spans 508 kilometers, but less than 20 kilometers had been completed so far.

The CPEC project started in April 2015. Within just ten years, parts of subways, hospitals, schools, airports, industrial parks, power stations, roads, agriculture, and ports have already been built. As of April 2025, China’s cumulative investment in Pakistan's energy, transportation, and industrial park sectors surpassed 32 billion USD. Projects such as the Lahore Metro, China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital, Faqur Public School, Karachi Airport, and Gwadar East Bay Expressway were constructed by China at its own expense, with more similar projects to follow. Projects are progressing according to plan, and China’s investments are patient for returns.

What began with the famous Bill Clinton visit to India in 2000 is spectacularly ending. It is not just Trump: Biden too was not as warm to India as Bush Jr, Obama, and Trump One were.

Hahaha, this is just a difference in educational methods. In China, teachers and elders teach us that when we speak or act, our behavior should be logical and supported by evidence, aiming to be a rigorous person.

I will be more direct in communication from now on. Thank you for the reminder.

"Washington's India-first era has ended"

[qupte]The era of India first in Washington has come to an end, albeit perhaps a temporary situation"[/quote]

This statement sums it up perfectly. Everything so far is temporary and personality driven, there has been no permanent structural changes or treaties.

Well, the F-16s updates that were delayed....about a billion USD worth.........got approved fast.

But yea I agree, this is a calculus that can go both ways......if conservatives come back in the 2028 elections, then Pakistan can play it safe and sound.......because democrats definitely are bought out by bhindians lobby.

If anything, Pakistan must hit the hammer while the iron is hot..........while the anti Indian H1B scenario is at play....and make the most out of it.

After the beating India received from Pakistan in May 2025, the US just sees India as nothing more than regional trouble maker, and irresponsible, pathetic and opportunist nation, who thought they could use the US against China.

Hindu Extremist PM Surrender Modi doesn't know which way to turn after West has stopped singing, "India will be the next Supa Powa".
