Trump Officials Announce More Than $11 Billion in Arms Sales for Taiwan

The Trump administration asked Congress on Wednesday to approve an arms package for Taiwan valued at more than $11 billion, in what would be a huge injection of military aid to the self-governing democratic island bracing for a long-feared invasion by China.

If approved by Congress, as is likely given Taiwan’s strong bipartisan support, the package would exceed the $8.4 billion in arms sold to Taiwan during the Biden administration, according to figures recently compiled by the research arm of Britain’s House of Commons. And it would be equivalent to more than half the $18.3 billion in arms sold to Taiwan during President Trump’s first term in office.

The size of the proposal is likely to reassure China hawks in Washington who have grown uneasy about Mr. Trump’s commitment to defending Taiwan as he seeks to cut trade and economic deals with Beijing.

Very over priced for the limited military capability it will offer relative to China's. At this point, Taiwan should simply not bother.

Agreed, nothing really cutting edge or really long range. These weapons will make the life of Chinese marines harder when they invade, but no real game changers here.

82 HIMARs, 400+ ballistic missiles, 1,200+ GMLRS, 2,500 anti tank missiles certainly isn’t limited. Especially in a contested amphibious landing.

The weapons above have inflicted massive losses on the Russians, and the Russians have a far easier route of attack and supply lines than China would.

The distance between China and Taiwan is between 82miles and 112 miles, and with the grown of Chinese satellites, drones and short range systems, none of this equipment will last very long.

82 HIMARs, 400+ ballistic missiles, 1,200+ GMLRS, 2,500 anti tank missiles certainly isn’t limited. Especially in a contested amphibious landing.

The weapons above have inflicted massive losses on the Russians, and the Russians have a far easier route of attack and supply lines than China would.

Oh please, Chinese already did a little test run with Pakistan in May on how they can spot mobile S-400 units and Brahmos units.

Yes, these things will complicate any invasion plans, but nothing the Chinese cannot easily overcome. Russia/Ukraine land mass is massive, Russian tech lags behind much of Ukraine's. The situation is the complete opposite of China v Taiwan

Yes. The Taiwanese military is too scary. In order to deal with the US intervention in Taiwan, we should continue to expand our navy by more than twice.
