Iranian Air Defence Systems | News and Discussions

Indeed, long range (~600km) AEW radar are massive, and do not really posses the time or ability to be taken down and moved rapidly. Consider the Fath-14 for instance.

North Korea has much the same problem.

Legacy radar systems can be withdrawn into underground revetments and secured by a sliding ‘door’. Which of course will have no bearing to say a garage door.

The new large radar unveiled by North Korea at an arms exhibition, would exacerbate physical defensive measure.

This radar is so large that it was raised at an angle just to fit into the exhibition hall: -

It can work to a degree but once those doors are detected by spy satellites they would be taken out. It can cover some area with decoy radar installations and can use underground tunnels to dissasemble to a new location periodically. But these systems are very bulky and mostly operated stationary.

Passive radars seems to be more promising if developed further with better signal processing - ai. Still even with the passive radars, fm-vhf transmitters should be towed hourly(or less) to new locations to not to be detected and taken out by spy satellites.

Airborne radars are necessary to detect low flying targets. Enemy can make toss bombings by flying low not being detected by ground radars. The problem with airborne radars are they are not stealthy and need usaf like fighter escort protection.

Another option can be converting helicopters to carry airborne radars to detect long distance low-high flying targets. Chinese have a new carrier drone for example. A larger version can be fitted with aesa pods and can transmit data to a ground processor vehicle or process itself and send the data. It is not stealthy but can be converted to a more stealthy version.

359 can be transported on a normal civilian truck so it is easy to transport. Pantsir has poor performance in multiple arenas and is a more distinguishable military truck
I meant the rocket of panstyr can be copied. It has good performance-weight 15km altitude and 80kg and 20km range. Dispose the panstyr system as a whole. Taking the rocket only and copying it to work with 358 system for higher altitudes that 358 cant reach.

without nukes , spending on air force and AD against usa is useless , their military budget is 1 trillion dollars while ours is less than 10 billion dollars .... we cannot hope to compete them in conventional fields ...

our only option is mutual destruction ....

we should have nukes ...

even china understand this at 1960s ...
The U.S is not gonna stand still and let you build the bomb, is it?

again the biggest takeaway is that every state needs to have MANPADs spread across key cities and sites

just one MANPAD could have changed trajectory of US incursion into Venezuela. the Chinooks were flying low and were easy targets

Events in Venezuela has shown that trump needs something to avoid the domestic situation in America so either way looks like trump is doing what he needs to do for his base to thump his chest he’s going to do it probably sooner than later so f it

Venezuela probably surrendered or made a deal before the helicopters came in or were so afraid to hit the US fearing the response that would ensue

Venezuela previously purchased S-300VM, Buk M2E, Su-30MKV and manpads from Russia, where is gone all of that? They surrendered or made a deal including total surrender and public execution of Maduro in it, there's no way these systems failed to work, Venezuela just didn't want to fight

You think those helicopters flew in without EW/ECW also happening across the Venezuela command and control nodes? Communication lines weren’t jammed?

You forget US special forces have plenty of classified stealth class helicopters. They flew into Pakistan without Pakistan having a clue. And Pakistan has much more capable military that Venzeuela.

There are many toys and capabilities the U.S. military has. RQ-170 was flying over Venezuela as well and likely other stealth assets to monitor the military.

It was a stealth operation.

That S-300VM is old likely compromised. BUKM2 is also old and not impenetrable. SU-30 would need to have noticed an incursion to be sent in the air. Venzenula doesn’t have enough money to keep air patrols 24/7. Look up the $ cost/per hour of keeping 1 fighter jet airborne. It’s thousands (sometimes tens) of dollars.

Just like with Assad, the military won’t fight when it realizes it’s a losing cause.

I’m very concerned with Iran. It’s lost its investments in Venezuela and its biggest ally in South America.

you don't need C&C or communication lines to fire MANPADs at helicopters flying over Caracas

in war time you can tell each decentralised team that the airspace is closed so anything is a military target unless they learn otherwise

and Trump admitted one of their helicopters was hit "bad" and caused injuries, by the way, so the super stealth choppers were not that invisible.

I didn't forget it. we saw videos of these helicopters flying low over Caracas. they may be stealth but they are apparently still visible to the naked eye and to cameras so should be visible to MANPAD operators.

Again, you cannot keep everyone alert 24/7 for a war that may have never came. US has been positioned for MONTHS. They disguise their hand where every week looks like “this it” and then nope false alarm. That’s how Iran got lulled into a sense status quo….until the attack finally happened.

It simply isn’t that easy as you say scattering teams of manpads to wait hoping they catch the helicopter corridor that the U.S. special forces will take (when they have full surveillance looking out for such threats).

Like I said —it wasn’t just some helicopters flying thru where some guy sitting on a roof with manpad could be the hero. This isn’t the movie Black Hawk Down.

If the integrated air defense system collapses, MANPADS become useless.
This has been proven in every war.
It's impossible for infantry to visually intercept aircraft that suddenly appear.
MANPADS are fundamentally operated based on EA radar and instructions from higher command.
Moreover, all communications will be severed by U.S. electronic warfare.
How can they fight without communications?
Facing a US invasion, only buried landlines would remain usable.
While base-to-base communication might barely function, issuing orders to field units would be impossible. Even a million troops would be rendered powerless in an instant.

no one said forever, but it's not that hard to keep a few MANPAD crews on alert around the clock at key targets at times of heightened risk of war

never said it was just helicopters

they did exactly this for past 20 years ... waiting for Iran yo test nukes
Has there been a single U.S intelligence report stating that Iran was developing Nuclear weapons for you to asses that the U.S would stand back and let Iran develop it?

this is air defence thread, discuss nukes in another thread please

But we should act quickly because if the Venezuela case is closed, Iran will follow. They have also taken advantage of the heated atmosphere in Ukraine, so there is no time to hesitate. The USA only respects force.
