There are legitimate fears that TikTok is a tool used by China for many nefarious purposes. Let's be real, it has a 101 use cases if the data it generates is exploited by the Chinese.
The US already knows the power social media apps have on populations because it itself has heavily used such apps for its own global ambitions. Arab Spring and how Twitter (and other apps) were used to propel it.
And the US has every right to be smart enough to not fall into the same trap that other gullible nations did when they gave a free pass to foreign companies to have at it, like Pakistan did/does.
Simple videos of naval ships/assets posted online by gullible citizens can be easily used by the Intelligence communities to keep track of such assets. And this is just 1 use case...
The US already does it and it doesn't want others to do such stuff on American soil.
This's more than just about "freedom", this is about National Security. Some nations like Pakistan might not take National Security seriously, others like India & US do. Sad truth (depending on which side you are or not).
