Bangladesh definitely has the right to ask for its matches to be held in Sri Lanka instead of India if it believes its players are not safe.
However, u need to remember that at some point in the tournament Bangladesh may have to play against India. If the BCB decides to play that match in India, it would make the country look ridiculous.
But, if the BCB is truly delusional enough to believe it can pressure the ICC into forcing India to play Bangladesh in Sri Lanka, then it is living in a fool’s paradise.
In the end, it will be Bangladesh that loses, simply because its board acted emotionally instead of rationally. As I’ve already said, the ICC will bend over backwards to accommodate the BCCI, just as they did in the last ICC Champions Trophy.
In terms of cricketing pedigree, Bangladesh is nowhere near Pakistan — and even Pakistan was forced to move its home matches to the UAE to play against India. The same thing happened with the final, which was shifted out of Pakistan because of BCCI’s stance.
The BCB will eventually do the same and be forced to play in India anyway. But by creating all this noise, they have put themselves in a situation where the only face saving option left might be to withdraw from the tournament altogether, or be ridiculed on social media if it decides to play in India.
Who would be the real loser? Do u think the cricket world would care if Bangladesh didn’t participate? Do you think this would hurt the BCCI in any way? Not really. The ultimate sufferers would be the Bangladesh players, the BCB, and the cricket fans of Bangladesh.
