PAF SAM based Air Defense System - News, Discussion & Updates

Due to the trade surplus with Russia, China needed to use its ruble foreign exchange, and once purchased five sets of S-400s. After testing, the Chinese military found them inadequate and deployed them in the western regions. On the Russia-Ukraine battlefield, S-400s are frequently destroyed, which proves this point.

How is the performance of HQ9C compare to HQ9B?
The HQ-9C is different from the previous HQ-9B surface-to-air missile. It has a smaller diameter and adopts a 'one vehicle, eight missiles' configuration. Zhang Xuefeng explained that the HQ-9C is mainly used for air defense operations within the atmosphere, and at the same time, it can also perform terminal anti-missile tasks, capable of intercepting some medium- and short-range ballistic missiles. In missile defense operations, it undertakes 'point defense' tasks.

There is little reporting from Chinese media, making direct comparisons difficult. China’s weapons are highly secretive, and the current performance of the HQ-9C is only speculative. The above text comes from official reports, and this is the only reliable information I could find.

The Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a live-fire test of the FM-90NER ship-to-air missile in the northern Arabian Sea.

The FM-90NER, publicly unveiled for the first time, is a ship-to-air missile with extended range based on the standard FM-90N missile. The maximum range of the standard FM-90N is 15 kilometers, but it is currently unclear exactly how much the range of the FM-90NER has increased.

While not technically a missile, Pakistan should consider laser guided rockets to defense against drones and munitions alongside gun based systems as the lowest tier of air defenses.

Future wars will probably see waves of thousands of drones in the initial attacks.

Post May 2025 has there been any sign of intent from PAF to procure more air defence units? With our geography, it is unrealistic to assume most PAF bases will be fully secure from enemy missiles but they need to hold out enough to keep themselves operational throughout an extended conflict.

Some Systems are already on the ground in certain cases and others in a year or so.
Tactics are also being considered on how post establishment of air superiority making launches of at least ground based systems untenable.

However, what India has in mind is going for the soft belly and gut punch with overwhelming force - that AD alone may not be sufficient to handle

Will there be any upcoming replacement for the tps77s? we have quite less radar density as compared to india..any words on that?

@side-winder any word on the AD system you were talking about in other threads which we would be receiving soon?

What's the situation at navy?? Are there any plans to procure type 052Ds for the air defense incase India brings its CBG

what's the talk on the HQ-19?

is it even cleared for export by China ?

so i assume ARFC is trying to solve that right , being able to respond quickly with similar intensity and make it hard for India to come out of any engagement unscathed .
ARFC is not going to solve it overnight and not in the various timelines the Indians are gaming it. What seems like "calm" is constant game of intelligence, counter intelligence, wargaming on both sides - For India it is finding that sweet spot where its bookworms say it this is the best time to attack and for Pakistan it is to create that balance of costs that even the most hawkish of Indian bookworms think the cost will be too high.

Well, I don't think it was a secret that India can target every inch of Pakistan with ease mostly do to our lack of depth.

Perhaps we should have a base or two like the Iranians.
