Barring people like you, nobody buys that nonsense. What does BCB gain if Pakistan plays in the World Cup? Nothing.

In fact, if Pakistan had stayed out, they could have portrayed it as a protest against BCCI’s hegemony over the ICC. But as usual, Pakistan chickened out, leaving Bangladesh to face it alone, even after talking big at first.

From the very beginning, I knew Pakistan would end up playing. But in the end Bangladesh end up losing 350 crores worth of money.

Yep! A drama cooked up between the donkey in charge of Bangladesh cricket and the chicken in charge of PCB.

PCB didn’t want to pull out so told the BCB donkey to “request” Pakistan not to pull out.

Sort of excuse Jamat provided for Pak Fauj in 1965.

It was certainly not for security reasons. KKR, the BCCI and the Indian government could have easily provided security if they wanted to. It was more of a political statement that there would be no "business as usual" if the relationship between India and Pakistan continued to deteriorate. This mirrors the ban on Pakistani players playing in the IPL or Pakistani artistes appearing in Bollywood movies, even though there has been no problem in providing security to Pakistani teams when they have visited India for ICC tournaments in the past.

It was really a tit for tat for restrictions in the economic sphere placed by Bangladesh. It was more about paying a Bangladeshi player over a million dollars than about cricket. IIRC, an archery team from Bangladesh visited India around the same time with no security concerns. The big difference was that the financial stakes were much lower, or non-existent.

Why do you think any contract was reneged on ? Given the short time window between the auction and the player being dropped, it is quite possible no formal contract was signed. Even if it were, such contracts for highly compensated performers typically have clauses that allow the party employing/contracting them to terminate the contract at will. While Indian laws do have employment protection for so-called "workmen", people getting paid 10 crore rupees for a few weeks of work are not covered under the definition of "workmen".

In any case, if a contract was reneged upon, the affected party always has legal recourse for compensation or to enforce specific performance.

The situation did worsen dramatically after the well-publicized lynching of a Hindu in Bangladesh and the hiring was not done by India, but by the Kolkata team. There were multiple Bangladeshi players in the auction and all the others went unsold, in large measure because teams wanted to avoid controversy. The Kolkata team probably thought the situation would subside and perhaps did not wish to lose the opportunity to pick up a Bengali player relatively cheap, but their gamble backfired when a vocal section made it a cause celebre.

It was an unfortunate incident and I do feel sorry for the player, but there are other people in the world who are in greater need of my sympathy than someone who lost out on an opportunity to make a million dollars for playing a few weeks of low pressure tamasha cricket.
