Good Morning/Evening Armchair Generals!
@Nilgiri @Raja Porus @Joe Shearer - tag those coming in - move it to the right section.

This is your controller speaking -

In light of its popularity and sheer quasi-realistic fun we will be restarting the "for fun" simulated virtual conflict between India and Pakistan using two popular wargaming platforms.
In its previous iteration - we saw a bloody battle for each side as all sorts of weapons were tested and some new ones popped up. Unfortunately, much like the previous forum this battle proved unsustainable and had to be culled.

But time heals all wounds and helps with advancements in technology - today Command: Modern Operations is much updated along with wargame: red dragon having the ability to simulate a lot of the equipment both sides have now in decent detail.

What is also good is I have managed to recover a lot of the old information - and specific plans. But the teams will have to format them a little for the new way this will be played.

The battle will rage starting with Command Modern Operations but will move to wargame red dragon whenever any significant land battle is about to ensue.
we will be keeping tallies - we will be maintaining a strict kill/loss table!

However, as the tech has changed so have I also absorbed the lessons learned from that run. This iteration of Wargame will be focused on very tight rules and even tighter orbats. This means we are going to see more of this(the old person in the video is on way representative of @Joe Shearer )

I will laying out the rules and the teams participating - and it will be an open forum

For a start - I will need to create two dedicated DM threads between the two teams - So I can get you all the existing material that was specific to you and coordinate actions from there.

But there will be this public forum for not just updates but first public consensus on Orbats and assets.
This will be more structures - less chaotic and run in a manner that would make Johann Hellwig proud while still providing the audience here an engaging narrative.

We will use AI both to assist in creating the structure but also to help as controller and scorer - but ensure it doesnt get so complicated that we all end up with an ever receding hairline or simply lose interest.

What we want is to see results of all the claims made here - but at the same time not a repeat of this from the last game:

🌟 Special Briefing for the 2024 India-Pakistan Wargame Scenario 🌟

Step into the command center! We're rolling out the map for an epic showdown, the 2024 India-Pakistan Wargame Scenario, and you're in the hot seat. This isn't just any game; it's a mental battlefield where your decisions ripple through virtual nations and shape the course of history. Whether you're here to test your tactical genius or to witness the spectacle, welcome to a theater of strategy and suspense!

You're about to dive into a simmering cauldron of geopolitical tension. The year is 2024, and the air is thick with the threat of conflict between India and Pakistan. Will the teams tip the scales of fate or navigate through the storm to diplomatic victory? witness a high-intensity simulation that mirrors the complexities and dynamism of modern warfare. the teams mission is clear, yet the path is riddled with uncertainty and danger.

🛡️ For the Skeptics and Naysayers:

Think this is child's play? We challenge you to think again. This is about understanding the delicate dance of diplomacy, the weight of military decisions, and the intricate tapestry of international relations. Join the fray, and put your skepticism to the test. Who knows? You might just be the master strategist we didn't know we needed.

And to avoid overload and even fairer keeping - I created 2 AI assistants that will be acting not just as controllers with all the information but also keeping score, ensuring rules while also providing the accurate briefs based on actions. Fear the power of LUA and GPTs!

For the spectators:
As observers, your role transcends mere viewership; you are the analysts, the critics, and the conscience of this exercise. Your engagement will illuminate the complexities of modern conflict and shape many future analysis we talk to here.

🔭 The Observer's Vantage Point:

  • Privileged Insight: You will have access to real-time updates, strategic overviews, and expert analyses. Watch as the scenario unfolds, and the participants, our esteemed commanders, navigate the treacherous waters of international conflict.
  • Interactive Platforms: Engage in discussions, debates, and polls. Your opinions and analyses matter. Pose questions, offer predictions, and provide your perspective on the unfolding events.
  • Realism at its Core: The simulation is rooted in realism, with participants making decisions based on actual military capabilities, political pressures, and international laws. So Real-world constraints are in play. Logistics, morale, international pressure — the battlefield is broader than you think.

📡 Media and Intelligence:

  • Behind the Scenes: Gain insights into how military decisions are influenced by media, public opinion, and real-time intelligence. Witness the impact of these factors on strategy and morale.
  • Media Reports: Follow simulated media reports that reflect the global reaction to the conflict, adding an additional layer of complexity and realism to the scenario.
For the Participants:
  • Primary Objective: To navigate the complex web of military engagements, diplomacy, and internal stability. Your decisions should aim to achieve your strategic objectives while considering the broader implications of your actions. Victory is not just about territory; it's about achieving your strategic objectives with minimal collateral damage and international fallout.

  • Secondary Objectives: These may include territorial control, destruction of enemy capabilities, international diplomacy, and more, depending on your role.

  • Duration: The game is set to run over a period representing 2-4 weeks of in-game time.
  • Force Inventory and Disclosure:

    • Paper Strength: Each side will disclose a comprehensive list of available military units and assets that will be made public. This includes the types, quantities, and capabilities of each unit.
    • Actual Availability: Realistic limitations will be applied, reflecting readiness levels, logistical capabilities, and other real-world constraints based upon feedback from the public in consensus. Teams in collaboration with controller and adjudicator will Define what percentage of the total force can be realistically deployed given the scenario's time frame, geographical constraints, and logistical considerations.

    • Readiness Levels: Consider the readiness levels of units, as not all might be combat-ready or available due to maintenance, training, or other operational commitments.. Based upon consensus the current readiness level of each unit (fully operational, in maintenance, training, etc.) will be applied - which means not only will we not have your pretty squadron of 18 JF-17s or Su-30s fully available, but each of the pilots in that squadron will have various training levels.
    • Strategic Reserves: Decide on a percentage of forces that must be kept in reserve, reflecting real-world strategic considerations and the unforeseen needs of a prolonged campaign.
    • Deployment Timeframe: We will decide on realistic timelines for mobilization and deployment of each unit.
    • Considerations:
      • To allow for fairness - An impartial adjudicator or panel reviews the submitted inventories to verify their accuracy and completeness. For this measure we do have the option to nominate people from each country.
      • All parties (players and adjudicators) agree to the final force inventory and constraints.
      • After agreement, no changes are allowed unless extraordinary circumstances arise and are agreed upon by all parties.
      • The only exception is that each side can submit two "undisclosed" black assets each that can be taken out for use in conflict - These must be talked to in private with adjudicators and controllers - and only after approval will be added to the Orbat.
  • Team structure:
Now, Ideally I would love for everyone to participate in the spirit of fun without any meanness or ego attached - so we can have fun and not the usual "I hate you - I hate this idea -you are losers - you aren't Pakistani/Indian/Muslim/Hindu/ Rastafarian/PTI/BJP etc etc." so please be kind human beings for once if you want to sprout such ideas or useless smileys and dont do it and just leave this activity alone.

My thought is whatever team is taken on for the sides - it gets odd numbers of members to allow breaking of disagreement ties. That is it. If you want to participate - put your names down - and we can add you to the team BUT then you are bound by the team good conduct to not disclose anything discussed between your team or adjudicator or controllers to the other side or or in public.
  • Turn Structure:

Each turn represents a set period within the game's time, with real-life time allocated for decision-making.
    • Duration of Each Turn: When each side says submit - ideally no more than 48 hours real-time for planning and execution.
    • Total Scenario Duration: 2-4 weeks or surrender, use of fictional superweapons, or other predetermined end conditions.
  • Scoring System:
After each move, the controller updates the score based on outcomes:
    • Kill/Loss List: A tally of all units lost and destroyed for each side.
    • Points System: Assign points for objectives achieved, enemy units destroyed, and successful strategy implementation.
    • Penalties: For rule violations or failed objectives
  • Rules for Combined Warfare Scenario:
    • Pre-Defined Orders of Battle (ORBAT):
      • All assets (units, equipment, support) must be declared and agreed upon before the scenario starts.
      • Violation: Introducing an undeclared asset during the game.
    • Communication Protocol:
      • All commands and communications for the game should be made through the designated channels.
      • Violation: Using unauthorized channels to give orders or gather intelligence.
    • Engagement and Movement:
      • All movements and engagements must adhere to the capabilities and limitations of the assets.
      • Violation: Moving units faster than their maximum speed(in deployment time.
    • Enforcement and disputes: For this we have our nice AI Assistant whose output I will always provide - but basically it will be given all the records of moves and associated changes and if there are disputes or rules breaking it will provide the analysis. We can also have additional human participants on the panel.

Real life political situations in your country getting you down or angry at neighbors and minorities - don't worry, this is NOT your Pakistan and NOT your India - those political events that have you angry or happy did not happen here. This universe just came to exist but it carries all of your nameless baggage of really really not liking each other.

If you want to participate - you are MOST welcome
If you want to troll - not so good.
If you want to be a sourpuss and pass smart-alec comments - nobody is paying you to participate - leave this thread alone.

We should run some small scale test sims first before we start adding more to it. These can be done with no opsec regd the teams, i.e open transparent stuff just as proof of concept to give initial working idea of the mechanics to everyone (that will be scaled with time and with more complexity, combined ops, opsec i.e more dimensions to the sim and analysis).

@Dedbot , little birdie told me you are "PDF" from old forum, I thought I recognised your sense of humour heh.
Damn it....

I thought to turn over a new leaf.. New Forum, New Me.. The past seems to have caught on!

And whoever is stalking me, exposing my past... leave me alone hahahaha!

@Panzerkiel Please take a more active role in this thread, and if possible, be part of Pakistani or Indian team.

Backstory to the 2024 India-Pakistan Strategic Engagement

In the year 2024, the world watches with bated breath as the Indian Subcontinent teeters on the brink of a catastrophic conflict. India and Pakistan, nuclear-armed neighbors and long-time adversaries, stand at a crossroads between peace and devastation.
DALL·E 2023-12-28 23.14.53 - A detailed, vintage map of the Indian subcontinent in the style o...png

The Prelude to Crisis:

The origins of this dire situation trace back several years. India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Aarav Singh, has been pursuing aggressive economic and military modernization. The nation has made significant strides in technology, defense capabilities, and international diplomacy. Meanwhile, Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Farhan Qureshi, has been dealing with internal political turmoil and economic challenges, while also trying to combat various militant groups within its borders.

The Indian Armed Forces, with their significant advancements in cyber warfare, satellite surveillance, and a modernized navy and air force, stand ready to protect and assert the nation's interests. The Pakistan Armed Forces, known for their resilience and traditionally reliant on the concept of strategic depth, face a new challenge. With Afghanistan no longer a cooperative ally, Pakistan's ability to extend its defensive and offensive capabilities is significantly constrained. In response, Pakistan has focused on modernizing its arsenal, emphasizing asymmetric warfare capabilities and forming strategic alliances elsewhere to compensate for this loss of strategic depth.

The Flashpoint:

The immediate catalyst for the current crisis is a series of terrorist attacks in Mumbai, resulting in hundreds of casualties. India's intelligence agencies have traced the origins of these attacks to a Kashmiri linked militant group operating from within Pakistan, known as the "Sons of the Valley" Despite Pakistan's insistence on its non-involvement and condemnation of the attacks, public and political pressure in India mounts for a decisive response.

In the aftermath, skirmishes along the Line of Control in Kashmir become more frequent and intense. International efforts to de-escalate the situation are undermined by aggressive rhetoric from both sides. Media outlets, social media, and public demonstrations fan the flames of nationalism and hatred. Within India, Kashmiri militant groups calling themselves the "Sons of the Valley"(SOV) are also active and it is suspected

Inside Pakistan, its military has assets already committed to combating the "Tehreek e Pasban o Khorasan(TPK) so its some of its paramilitary will have to cater to those attacks. Pakistan accuses India of sponsoring the TPK and providing it operational instructions. The unpredictable actions of these two groups add another layer of complexity to the already intricate tapestry of the conflict.

The international community is on edge. The United Nations, led by Secretary-General Maria Espinosa, calls for restraint and dialogue, but their pleas are overshadowed by the beating drums of war. The United States, China, Russia, and other regional powers conduct a series of diplomatic engagements trying to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.

The geopolitical landscape is already tilting. India's enhanced diplomatic activities and its burgeoning role on the world stage have allowed it to exert economic pressure on Pakistan. Leveraging its growing alliances and trade partnerships, India has managed to isolate Pakistan economically, exacerbating its internal challenges and putting its leadership in a precarious position.
A surgical strike to hit known targets for the SoV was considered by India as well, but the hawks are suggesting that Pakistan in its already cornered situation might double down and look even further away on militant attacks.

India's Strategic Calculus:

India, aware of its enhanced international standing and the economic vice it has tightened around Pakistan, contemplates its military options. One of the more aggressive strategies at its disposal is the "Cold Start" doctrine. This doctrine allows for rapid mobilization and a swift, targeted strike into Pakistan, designed to achieve significant territorial gains before international powers can intervene. The aim is not just military success but also to further weaken Pakistan's standing and morale.

However, India recognizes that such an aggressive move could have significant international repercussions. As such, it also considers the option of full mobilization and a more traditional, albeit slower, approach to conflict. This would give Pakistan time to respond but would also allow India to bring its full military might to bear, showcasing its capabilities and resolve while maintaining a veneer of restraint and strategic patience.

Pakistan's Precarious Position:

Faced with economic strangulation and the threat of Indian military action, Pakistan finds itself in a dilemma. A pre-emptive strike, while risky, could disrupt India's plans and demonstrate Pakistan's resolve. Such a strike could involve a range of asymmetric tactics, including targeted strikes on critical infrastructure, use of advanced missile technology, and leveraging its strategic depth by mobilizing allies and proxy forces.

Pakistan's military leadership knows that a successful pre-emptive strike could potentially level the playing field and force India into a defensive posture. However, the risks are immense. A failed pre-emptive strike could lead to international condemnation, further isolation, and a devastating counter-offensive from India.

Your Role:

Participants in this wargame are tasked with navigating these complex strategic choices. Your decisions will simulate the potential paths this conflict could take, exploring the consequences of aggression, restraint, and the delicate balance of power.

Observers are encouraged to engage critically, analyzing the moves and considering the broader implications of each strategy.

My Role:

I will be running the simulation on my machine - using Command: Modern Operations as the primary simulator and then Wargame: Red Dragon for ground fights. Why my machine? It has the required software - the previously created scenarios and files from the legacy PDF wargame - and it is a really powerful machine in general.

Lastly - and to reiterate with due respect to ALL

I extend a cordial invitation to each one of you to participate. This wargame is not just an exploration of military strategies and geopolitical outcomes; it's a platform for learning, understanding, and engaging with complex international relations dynamics.

In the spirit of fostering a constructive and respectful environment, we kindly ask all participants and observers to leave aside personal histories, feelings about other countries, political situations, and any preconceived notions at the door. This simulation is a neutral ground, a place for objective analysis and strategic thinking.

Here are a few guidelines we encourage everyone to follow:

  • Respect and Objectivity: Approach discussions and decisions with respect and objectivity. Remember, the scenario is a fictional representation designed for educational purposes. It's an opportunity to think critically and analytically, not a platform for airing personal grievances or political views.
  • No History or Politics: Please refrain from bringing in historical conflicts or current political situations into the game. Our focus is on the strategic elements of the scenario at hand, and we wish to keep the environment as professional and unbiased as possible.
  • Constructive Participation: If you choose to participate, do so with the intent to contribute positively. Engage in discussions, share insights, and provide feedback that enriches the experience for all.
  • Voluntary Involvement: Participation is entirely voluntary. If you feel that this exercise is not for you, or if you're uncomfortable at any point, you're under no obligation to participate. Your well-being and comfort are paramount.
  • No Compulsion: Feel no compulsion to conform to any viewpoint or strategy. This wargame is a space for diverse strategies and analyses to coexist and compete. Every decision, every move, is a learning opportunity, not just for you but for all participants and observers

Thank you - and let have some fun.

Excellent Idea - we can run the 2019 skirmish into it and see how that plays out?? Or even a very different scenario - like lets say BD vs Myanmar short aerial skirmish?

If he is able to spare time to participate - I would rather have him and @Signalian acting as adjudicators.

I will be observing with interest, and in particular, casualties amongst the combatants as well as civilians on both sides, and the consequences thereof.

Yup these sound ideal. We can do one for each subdomain air, land, sea.

Then maybe one that then combines all 3 to get an idea of any niggles/limits early on too.

Time will free up for me a few days after new years. I will have hopefully figured out where a few others stand by then (w.r.t their own CMO experience and willingness/interest here).

Joe will also be able to type/post things more conveniently by then too.

I think the newer updates make conops much easier - plus all the stuff from earlier exists as well.
What I do suggest is that the process I did is followed because then it will reduce confusion and allow for smoother flow.

When I had to run that one - some assets i had to individually cast via Lua constantly due to added avionics and weapons systems whereas now its much easier with gui for those tasks.

Same goes for coordination of large scale air and naval operations

Isn't Bad Blood in the title a bit offensive? Although War Itself is Offensive. 😜

In addition, what's the timeline so viewers like us got something interesting. 🫣
