I wouldn't get too caught up in the hate. It is sunnah to treat your enemies with respect. Banu quraysh and the jews of yasrib/khyber despised the muslims and commited unspeakable crimes towards them but even when it was permitted to him to fight back they were treated as equals and respected greatly wether in negotiations or surrender.
