The reality of nation states is you want to maximize your influence over everyone, including allies or temporary allies. The Americans do it to Europe, the Saudis are trying to do it to UAE, Saudi UAE and Qatar tried to do all sorts to one another, qatar will always play a slippery game because they are a tiny state with excessive natural resource wealth that they cannot ever hope to protect themselves.

The gulf states are good at publicizing how they help Pakistanis but only after time have people come to understood that the help was creating a dependency, the Pakistan establishment fully understands this

Every relationship with everyone is all about relative advantage over another nation.

Pakistani's, not the establishment, just generally the sentiment of the people is they take it more personally.

The founding of Pakistan was based on Islam, to some extent, therefore it is encoded in the psyche, but that can become an opportunity for others to exploit, even the Taliban can play this card.
