My bad. I don't take the threat of a Land invasion seriously at this point. The U.S doesn't have the Troops needed nor the public support for such an endeavor. It is very easy to undermine a sustained assault that is purposefully constructed with honed skills and years of expertise.
No defending force without the parameter set can do much about it... because these are matched with superior and targeted fire. However, given enough time and experience the defense can start preparing better... have cover fire and snipers that can start taking apart the assault. In this case it turns out the area was equally remote for both the US and Iranians. Again the fundamental advantage for Iran is home turf... it can regroup and sustain longer than anyone dropped with a task at hand.
