The aircraft weren’t stuck in mud. It was either soft sand or blown tires. The US blew up its own aircraft, not from Iranian fire.

I encourage US to do the same twice. Do It. Nothing can resist US armies. Just send dozens of planes and try again. I am sure you won't loose a single soldier. Maybe one or two older C130 but nothing more.

You would be horribly wrong. Besides the fact the pilot is American, do you know just what the cost is to train a pilot? Or the intelligence coup Iran could have had had they managed to capture him.

Knowing the crewmember was not only a WSO but an O-6 to boot, that would have been a big PR win for Iran.

That was also why the Air Force put so much effort into the rescue of Lt.Col. Hambleton.

The point is troop morale not optics or face saving. No one will take risks as these men and women do in war if there isn't a safety net to catch them when things go wrong. This isn't new, this was done in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

I wonder how far the AO where C-130's landed was from the WSO? It makes sense seeing the burned Little Birds they were likely brought in to fly to his location pick him up and dispose the Little Birds after getting back to C-130's. I don't think they brought in any Ground Mobility Vehicles.

1 x F16CJ - possible - damage and crash while returning from Iran on the same day.
2 X C130's – destroyed on the ground.
2 x Black Hawks damaged.
4 x MH-6 Little Birds ( on or near C130' package ).
2 x MQ-9s Reaper
- unspecified injuries of Spec Ops personnel.

Most of which came from the CSAR. Again, it’s minimal relative to the resources of the United States:

- 22 F-15EX procured for 2026, another 24 requested for 2027
- 85 F-35s across all variants requested for 2027
- 8 C-130Js procured in 2026
- 29 UH-60 Blackhawk Ms procured in 2026

MQ-9s were built for the counter terrorism era. The USAF is now shifting to CCA drones, with $1B being requested for 2027.

I am pretty sure you understand the differences.
Those are tribesmen in a mountanious área. Wonder what gonna happen if this kind of deployments are done in covered áreas by regular Army or even worse... IRGC.
