I don't know man,it feels like the forum changed

This forum is corporate and sanitized now. It doesn't have a community feel anymore, it just feels like a bureaucratic machine going through the motions.

What is it missing now that you are looking for ?

It's been weeks and weeks now that I've been thinking of leaving this place. I'm not sure yet,but every day I feel more encouraged to just up and leave.

For me,being the only greek here is kind of a weird thing. I mean,it was my choice to come on PDF in 2021,but last year or so ...it feels like "wtf am I doing here" for me,personally.

A few things that have been bugging me,in no particular order:

• You have Fatman now rushing to lock threads asap,often without hearing someone's reasoning. Fatman will just lock a thread,assuming it's trolling or has no valid source or whatever he thinks is wrong with it. At the same time,there's a gazillion "China so super" threads every day by the same people who have been spamming literally 5-10 threads almost daily on PDF that all revolve on pure propaganda reasons.
• Then you have the merging of threads. If your thread managed not to get locked,it will most probably be merged with some other already existing megathread with hundreds or thousands of pages. I sat down to translate and post photos about the Greek Tank Trials of the '90s,that was supposed to be a seperate thread for the information value and historical and technical data and it disappeared,merged to the European military thread.
• I've noticed a kind of tendecy the last year,MMM-E is allowed to go rampant on provocative posts,his usual nationalist,superiority complex rants and to go on with endless post spamming of literally the same things,the exact same things. The same lists,the same photos,the same quotes,the same boasting. And when I engage him,I'm the one who gets infractions and posts deleted(not always,but most of the time). Nobody puts that guy back in his place. He used to get banned a lot,sometimes for a week,sometimes for a month. Now it's ok,he can just spam the same nonsense. They tell me to report,I report,then they tell the report button isn't a toy or whatever.
• You got hyperman adding a "lol" every time he comments on something or replies. Like trolling you. Like being OCD "lol look at Greece" and "lol,they are desperate","lol relax","lol lol lol. Repeatedly told you to stop that hyperman,as it comes across as you being a dick and is disrespectful. Meanwhile hyperman is the guy who will derail a thread to pieces and a few pages later will warn you to stop derailing the thread.
• Then comes something I've figured out a long time ago about PDF,it's interesting and also kind of sad or disappointing(for me at least): Pakistanis are always extremely reluctant to take a clear stance in threads concerning Greece-Turkey or Greece-Cyprus. Apart from the random ertugrul fan who might jump to say something like "cyprus should belong to turkey becos muslims",I've noticed Pakistanis,even the ones I get along with very very well,are extremely reluctant to comment or even press a like in something that could be considered a "pro-Greek" argument. I mean,you can see a dozen guys reading the thread,nobody will dare go against any Turkish position,I guess as not to offend their "brothers". Of course if one simply does not agree then shouldn't,I'm only saying I've seen Turks agree with me more against other Turks than Pakistanis themselves arguing with any Turks.
• No PM function. Why does the forum still not have a PM function?
• Having certain people not being able to make up their minds if I'm a zio-zio or not. I'm tired of having to go through the same vile accusations and bullshit every time I pose an even mildly "what if arabs/muslims/palestinians/iranians/aliens did something nasty to the yahood as well" question. There's always a few people who will jump and say "you lying zio secret fake greek genocide supporter masks have fallen we know your kind" etc etc

Anyway,just some thoughts I wanted to get out.

I concur with your views. The moderation of the forum has definitely gone down with moderators enforcing their own personal bias over objectivity.

I am also in the same boat as you. Have been a very long member of this forum and the old (now defunct pakdef), but the moderation quality of the forum is certainly forcing me to rethink my presence here.

If moderators want an echo chamber, they will get it, but at the cost of forum quality.

I am in agreement with the original poster and there is a vast difference in quality between the old forum and this one as there is too much interference by some moderators and for no justifiable reason ... I was really active on the old forum and had constant fights with the Indians here but the moderators rarely interfered and discussion was much freer ... It seems one or two of the moderators have a God complex ...

Perhaps the mods are more careful so as to prevent a repeat of what happened to the old forum.

There are no perfect mods on any website. You should see how intolerant the Reddit mods can be.

I just comment and stay within the rules.

Everyone has their biases, some more than others. Moderators just need to keep theirs in check that's all.

I personally have never had confrontations with them over anything. I try to be respectful

I tried that once and got banned ... No there is a serious problem here and it is not enough to stick to the rules as they seem to change according the preference of some moderators ... Some moderators just make up rules as they go along and if you complain you get rebuked for complaining ... There is a serious lack of consistency here but overall the moderation team is good except for a few ... While I understand that this new team want to avoid the problems of the old forum some moderators are taking their powers a little too seriously and squashing any meaningful or useful debate. The old forum was wild and a lot more fun.

tbf when i was mod id just bait jeets into arguments then ban them, but then i realised, im just banning people who are keeping the forum alive, even if they're insufferable morons. So i stopped banning and let people fight it out. Kept the forum alive and entertaining. Theres quality discussion and obviously a shitposting forum, but like, a healthy balance is needed imo, i only really see the same 3/4 people speak, beyond them its like a graveyard of old names. Gotta let the jeets and co stay around, they keep it alive with their retardation. But yea, some mods do power trip in some weird compensatory fashion. Oh well, life goes on, not the end of the world

Fatman is actually fine.
That Musings is a weirdo though, banned from the Iran-Israel thread over sources that are pro-Israel(which was wrong), yet Iranians share the same sources too and nothing is done.
The old forum was terrible too, way too many Indians that kept destroying threads, but this one has way too much bias. Just need to find the right balance.

I miss the old forum. Whenever there was a security event or a war, I would immediately go to PDF not Twitter and there would already be a thread with active member discussions.

Now, all I see are generic, unrelated threads at the top. If something happens, I have to search for it instead of finding it right away

100%. Used to go to PDF and instantly find the thread on the ongoing event and get hooked. Now you have to sift through generic threads. Now I primarily go to X for that and the algorithm takes care to serve me the topic I am looking for (somehow).

We survived bhai log trying to kill our forum but we are getting killed by generic thread obsession, irony.

Never had those experiences but I do respect the fact and can sympathize with you on the negative things that happened to you

True, I would rather be banned than having my hard created thread being buried in a megathread of EVERY THING.

Disagree here, my only objection is lack of consistency by mods. Some are very fair and they go out of their way to explain their decisions and only act after giving warnings.

Others, well, we know the story here....

I agree with your point of view.

If a member violates the forum rules, the administrator should inform the reason for the violation, rather than merging posts and banning posts privately without any information.

For example, a post I submitted to the administrator requesting an American member to change their avatar was banned. This member used the flags of Israel and Pakistan to indicate that Israel and Pakistan are friendly countries, which is seriously inconsistent with the facts, seriously insulting Pakistan, and attempting to undermine the internal unity of the Islamic world.

The administrator did not provide me with any reason.
