PAF J-35AE - News, Updates and Discussions

Dude,I was playing with toys back then- elaborate for non boomers.

Hes talking about how in 2005/6 Pakistan had to spend a lot of political will and capital to acquire those f-16s and Amraams. Those were a big deal back then and until 2022 we didnt have a simmilar premier platform with long stick accquired again (j-10 and pl-15) with acquisition of those types only a couple years ago with further orders just recently signed. With a brand new platform, lack of capital to go around its hard to dedicate funds for next big jump right away

and @Sainthood 2.0, not quite.

At the turn of 2000, IAF had mica on mirages, and Su-30s had come in numbers, by 2004, the deal for new F-16s and the deal for upgrades was done. PAF didnt have any bvr and flew pretty much like IAF flew last year, at arms lenght.

2006: There were strong rumours that the J-10 was coming, but we all knew it only came in 2022. The official narrative was "PAF was not happy with the capability". What it essentially meant was, "now that the F-16s are getting BVR, we will be able to keep IAF in check for the foreseable future". 75 odd F-16s were meant to keep in check near 300 IAF bvr by 2010. Same provided a lack of "compulsion" to take on the J-10 when it was new. However unlike back then we had options instead of chinese (vis-vis F-16s).

So in short, in 2006 deterence was established, compulsion was lacking and options were present. In 2026, deterence is also established in the air-air domain for the foreseeble future, which again means compulsion is absent. However this time we have no other options. Hence the signalling from PAF is absolutely on point: "don't force our hand, and we will not finalise the deal".

We are collaborating with China and Turkiye for many projects, including various types of modern drones and 5th gen fighters. Also, we are working on our own engine but that is the holy grail of airpower and I will not be surprised if we have to use a Chinese engine in PFX.

More likely, some lucky officers are drawing big tankha and getting to 'study' abroad for this 'project' that will eventually be scuttled.

Aisa kuch South Africa me bhi huwa tha yes?

Ji ap keh rahay hain to I am sure hua ho ga. All projects should be taken away from PAF and given to bureaucrats.

After Deputy CAS press talk 2 days back, I think my date should be extended by atleast 2 years :P anyways lets keep it 23rd March 2027 for now :D

Some PDF experts were saying J35 doesnt exist, or has only one prototype, and some saying J31 is different plane, so how can it be delivered in Dec 2026, but we all were wrong. J35 for airforce is in production.

Well, I think this argument doesn‘t fit since these „PDF experts“ were not totally wrong, they mostly were surprised and even further, you are confusing different things from different times: To be critical against a „J-35AE export variant“ flying back two years ago in mid-2024 was well justified since nothing was known. Also the fact that it differed to the still not existing J-31 was also correct.

Even today it is not being built in true full rate production - the new factory is simply not yet active - but it is only in limited numbers in production at the old facility for the PLAAF as the J-35A. The export variant is NOT YET in production!

Therefore „we were all wrong“ is a statement that is simply wrong and in fact I was not that far off with my prediction; Yes it surprised me to see the AF variant in late 2024 almost out of the blue, but this is not a single reason to believe the PAF will get them this year.

Even more so, it was clearly noted, that „The Pakistan Air Force will install indigenous aerial-dominance ecosystems, including the J-35 fighter jet when the requirement arises, as the initial mechanism for the platform has been established. —Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations)“

This is IMO a clear confirmation - also noted as a quote - that additional J-10CEs are a priority and the PAF will introduce the J-35AE when it‘s mature!

While I agree with your point regarding pre emptive strikes, it's a pandoras box that should not be opened...I certainly don't think that we need 150-200 J 35s to annihilate India's airforce, Our F16, Jf17 and Mirage numbers can easily match their Su30, Mig 29 and Mirage Inventory as of right now, Just add 100 more Jf17 Block 3s and we'll far surpass their aging fleet in terms of capability...Our J10s can easily handle their Rafales...The rest of their fleet is sh*t consisting of jaguars and Mig21s, they are not even flyable...Our J35s are a surplus and not to mention India currently has 0 options in terms of stealth aircraft, US won't sell them F35s without terms and conditions and Su47 isn't even fully stealth, even if they sign the deals now it'll take years, their 100+ rafale deal will take atleast a decade for completion, by that time 4.5 gen will mostly be obsolete and we'll have 100+ J35s....So India has been checkmated when It comes to airpower...So coming back to my point we don't need 150-200 J35s to dominate India for the next 5-6 years, 40 is more than enough, but after 2030 we certainly need to boost those numbers to 100+ which I have no doubt Pakistan airforce will be doing
and don't forget J35AE is a detterance against Israel airforce.

Israel is far from Pakistan, and the Iranians are still alive.

You only need the J-10CE to suppress the Indian Air Force.

Give China a little more time; this is beneficial for both Pakistan and China.

with J35AE Pakistan airforce will have the clout to challenge Israel's air dominance in the middle East.

China cannot remain a meek giant forever. It must leverage certain means to exert its regional influence.

India refuses to be a U.S. subordinate while looking down on Russian weaponry, essentially aspiring to become a major power.
However, once Pakistan deploys the J‑35AE, India will have no room for arrogance. It will either bow to purchase American fighter jets or face over a decade of air‑superiority disadvantage due to generational gaps.

we need to put constant pressure on our strategic threats and enemies, never letting them live in ease.

Pardon, but that’s plain stupid and simply wrong! Even 40 J-35AE won’t be a „challenge Israel's air dominance in the middle East“ given that the IDF has an established & continously evolving eco System, whereas the PAF is at best just entering this playground.

then wait and see, time will tell. as a moderator , I think you should be very cautious to use word like stupid against a veteran in this forum.
