PAF SAM based Air Defense System - News, Discussion & Updates

i dont see why not, PLA 054As already use HQ-16C, the HQ-16FE has a smaller footprint
Would this be a worthwhile upgrade for the PN to pursue? It would give the Tughrils decent area defense Capability, could even mix missiles for example 16 normal and 16 FE missiles to reduce cost, even just getting EV missiles would be worth it.

yea, but, if this actually happens it will be a curious case of why the PAF decided to order 2 similar systems, one of quite legacy design, and one modern, to fill the same gap.

the PAF has claimed that theyve ordered
HQ-16s, 40-70km range
HQ-16FE, 160km range
FD-2000, 125km range
HQ-9BE, 260-290km range.

this weird, middle tier overlap

Im sure about FEs - where have you read about legacy 16s?

so more new batteries right because we already have them iirc

PAF doesn't operate HQ16 as of now.

i would go for all fe's, mixed loadouts with low cap missiles wouldnt make sense. imo it should have been a condition of the purchase that we would have integrated advanced hq16 variants

No I don't think we do, I think you mistaking HQ-16EV with FE

likely a mistake.

We could have 1-2 Type 54A providing area defense with 2-3 CAMM-ER equipped warships providing Medium/Point defenses, this would sort of solve the problem of both types.

The HQ-20 is a far better fit for what PAF needs: a modern MRSAM. The HIMAD domain is already reasonably covered with FD-2000s and HQ-9Bs.

@AeronautIR this thread is dominated by SAM missile while AA gun are available in higher quantities in Pakistan services and reserve stocks for example Janbaz Force -National Guard).

- would you consider this assets as the main bulk against drones and Helicopters- if you would you rate the training and tactics adequate for the new drone warfare, would you recommend changing and updating tactics and training. Would you recommend to develop new ammunition (specially for anti drone operations) and vehicles which ( for example trucks to modify their carrier and body to house AA guns. I would go even deeper, and say they should pull out every single AA gun and overhaul it, put in on a vehicle, stabilise the axis, computerise the fire controller- this mobile CNC AA guns should be attached with mobile stinger units. They can the be integrated in the Air Defence Network or can be operate independent as light fire support units for armoured columns etc. multiple roles - as mobile but static AA guns have their limitations. Then there should be plans and prepared (towers) around in Cities (for higher velocity, coaxial and free firing or range) to put this AA guns on high buildings.

@Ak01 your thoughts about this hidden potential.
