Tanks and cannons.. Egypt and Morocco turn to South Korea to to reinforce military industrialization and technology transfer

The Korea Times newspaper revealed the opening of an Egyptian defense complex in the Songbuk neighborhood in the South Korean capital, Seoul, in the presence of military officials, diplomats, and representatives of South Korean defense companies. The move carried connotations that went beyond symbolism, as it reflected an Egyptian move to enhance cooperation with one of the fastest growing defense industries in the world.

Defense relations between Cairo and Seoul did not begin with the opening of this complex, but rather date back to previous years that witnessed an increasing convergence in the files of military manufacturing and technology transfer. In 2022, Egypt signed an agreement with the South Korean company Hanwa Aerospace to bring the K9 Thunder self-propelled guns into service, with a local version to be produced in Egypt. The deal also included K10 ammunition supply vehicles and K11 command and control vehicles.

The 155 mm “K9” cannon represents one of the most prominent products of the South Korean defense industries and the most widespread globally. However, the importance of the deal for Egypt is not only related to the fire capabilities or high mobility of the system, but rather to the transfer of technology and expansion of the local manufacturing base. According to specialized reports, Cairo aims to increase the proportion of the local component in the project, thus giving Egyptian military industries advanced expertise in the fields of fire control systems and electronics related to modern artillery.

Observers believe that the opening of an Egyptian defense complex inside the South Korean capital reflects Cairo's desire to build a long-term partnership with an industrial partner that enjoys technical flexibility and high productivity, especially in light of regional challenges and the requirements of modernizing the Egyptian Armed Forces. South Korea's reliance on systems compatible with Western standards also gives Cairo an additional advantage, given its extensive relations with Western arms suppliers, especially France, Italy and Germany.

Data circulating in defense circles show that Morocco is studying a number of advanced South Korean systems, including K2 Black Panther main battle tanks, in addition to air defense systems, submarines and combat aircraft, in the context of plans to modernize the Royal Armed Forces.

The factor that attracts Arab capitals to the Korean partner is not limited to the quality of weapons only, but also includes Seoul’s willingness to transfer technology and contribute to the localization of defense industries within the partner countries. This is a pivotal point for both Cairo and Rabat, which seek to build local military industrial bases that reduce dependence on foreign imports and support strategic independence in the long term.

Why not replace the old T-62 and M-60 with something Kaplan MBT?
There is too much new tech in the new MBTs.. you can't just upgrade to that..
And it might be already too costly to upgrade the old MBTs to even medium tech..let alone the most recent tech..

I’m not talking about upgrading them. We could sell them to some African countries. I mean buying more from Kaplan or another medium battle tanks, or even obtaining some ToT. We can’t just let them rot in hangars. They are obsolete in modern warfare.

Any news about new arms procurements? Reliable rumors I mean.
Egypt has disposed of its old air defense systems by selling them to the Gulf states. Systems like Skyguard and Crotale have already been sold; the Gulf states were simply forced to buy them. Some say they were sold to the Gulf at three times the price. Egypt got rid of the Skyguard Amon systems and sold 35mm cannons to the Gulf. A Russian source clarified that Egypt possesses 140 35mm cannons, in addition to the Skyguard 3 deal for 18. Furthermore, not only Crotale batteries but also Crotale missiles and AIM-7M missiles were sold to the Gulf. Egypt also sold Chinese air defense systems to Saudi Arabia, including the HQ-9BE and HQ-16 systems that operate them. The presence of Rafale fighter jets in the UAE and Bahrain was not free; it was paid for to expedite the modernization of Egyptian air defense systems. Several Gulf states have also purchased drones and rocket artillery from Egypt, and Egyptian forces are even stationed in four Gulf countries. This isn't free; the matter is clearer to anyone with even a basic understanding of the Gulf states. The Gulf states used Egyptian ports as logistical hubs to meet their needs for goods coming from Europe. These goods then passed either through Nuweiba or via Egyptian ports to reach Saudi ports. This included the Suez Canal pipeline, Egyptian oil storage tanks for Gulf oil, the petrochemical and oil trading area at Hamriun, and the storage of Gulf civilian aircraft. All of this would not have been possible without Egypt sending weapons and troops. The lack of public announcements, and even the counter-media campaigns, may have been a smokescreen. In return, Egypt received money, in addition to benefiting from a 30% increase in the export of cement, aluminum, iron, and fertilizers. This increase in production volume positively impacted the Egyptian economy and facilitated the financing of arms deals, profitably selling systems nearing the end of their operational lifespan.

Regarding Egyptian-Gulf relations, the Egyptian president's primary objective is money. He doesn't care about dignity or honor; he only wants money. For example, his relationship with the UAE is driven by a desire for investments, while everyone is pleased with the collapse of the Emirati economy after the flight of investments. The collapse of the UAE's economic sector, the stock market, and tourism, coupled with Iran's continued attacks on the UAE, is a source of joy for all Arab and Islamic countries. Even the presence of 6-12 Egyptian Rafale fighter jets is simply because their price has been paid and replacements are available in the UAE. Egypt uses the UAE as an intermediary to purchase Western weapons that are prohibited for Egypt. These weapons are bought in the UAE's name and transferred to Egypt since the 1970s. The UAE was the first country with which Egypt engaged in this practice since its founding in 1971. The same applies to Saudi Arabia and the Americans, who cannot object simply because the deals are large and they know that part of them is being funneled to Egypt, but they turn a blind eye. Even the Americans publicly object to Chinese arms deals, but behind closed doors they only request that they not be made public. In short, a war between Iran and America will yield all the benefits for the Gulf states, which will emerge from this war defeated. The UAE will have no future, and all its national projects have already failed. Even the presence of a number of Egyptian fighter jets is merely symbolic, not supportive. As a senior military figure, she will not attack Iran; her role is purely defensive.

The use of cardboard in the manufacture of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is one of the most prominent innovations in the field of modern defense and logistics. Cardboard, treated with waterproofing materials, has been transformed into lightweight, inexpensive, and easy-to-assemble aircraft structures.

The DOPACK factory in 6th of October City, Egypt, provides this technology to Egyptian manufacturers.

Im actually going to disagree on this and say that it is absolutely worth upgrading the older model vehicles because we have seen the utility of older vehicles still performing a wide range of objectives to further achieve success on the battlefield, a t62s main gun will shear through any vehicle other then a modern mbt. And further more, the mechanism of using gov drones being connected to electric sets installed within these older vehicles gives for exceptional situational awareness and better overall tactical advantage. M60s can absolutely be upgraded with bigger guns and more modern armor as well as aps systems, 360 CITV’s, and third gen imagers for commander and gunner as well. There’s a whole lot you can do with those that will further multiply your capabilities in terms of numbers and advanced fielded equipment

same was said about abdel nasser , later it was revealed that he came to power through CIA operation (fat fucker) to get rid of king farouk ( you can google it).

they are all puppets serving purposes other than Egypt , the difference now is that sisi licks uae boots for money and to stay in power.

there is nothing called arab nato that's just absurd and dumb idea , so if Egypt was attacked by israel , will usa allow gulf coutries who operate american made air fighters to attack israel ? lol never gonna happen.
Do you have any links to this alleged CIA op that installed Nasser ? This is the first I have heard of it.

Military expert #سمير_راغب stated that the appearance of the "Meteor" missile on Egyptian Rafale fighters represents a major strategic shift in the balance of air power in the region, confirming that the missile possesses advanced combat capabilities that give it superiority in long-range air engagements, even against modern stealth aircraft.

Ragheb explained that the "Meteor" missile is characterized by its long range, supersonic speed, and high maneuverability, in addition to being equipped with a "Dual Data Link" system that allows for target changes or missile redirection during flight, which increases its combat efficiency and makes evasion from it more difficult.

He added that Egypt's acquisition of the system came despite Israeli objections, as part of a policy to diversify arms sources, pointing out that the missile is entirely European and not subject to any American restrictions or approvals, which gives Cairo greater flexibility and independence in its use.

Why is the Hebrew media terrified of Egypt's new underground command and control centers? The leaks are talking about legendary fortifications that ensure the management of the state and the army even during times of total war, and engineering capabilities that rival those of the great powers. Egyptian sovereignty isn't just talk—it's a silent force that scares those who can't stand it!
