Murdered student did not die with dignity says family

Most Hindus see Sikhs as fellow dharmic people, even if many Sikhs don’t like being folded into that category.
Can you not consider respecting boundaries here?

Let the Sikhs define themselves, rather than making them a subset of Hinduism.

I noticed Vivek Rama tried to redefine his definition of theism the same as a Christians.

Anyway not to go into a religious discussion, I am just alluding to a common theme of how religion comes into these things.

The same with the Bangles Sikhs wear

I remember getting into fights with Sikhs back in the 90's and those clowns always used to try to use the bangle as some sort of punching weapon, never really worked out well for them, but the intent was there

Religious symbols that become a knuckle duster and a blade. How convenient.

Indian version of the taliban.

While the Sikh Federation have come out and condemned what he did and said that wasn't a Kirpan – a much smaller knife carried around the neck – the one that Digwa was carrying was a longer, bigger knife.

"I think we need greater clarity that's why I have written to the prime minister."

Unfortunately everyday in the UK we see the most savage knife crimes, I don't know where people get these psychotic looking blades from, but in this case we have a case of religious ceremonial weapon being mixed with a tragic murder, I can't be sure but I think it's actually quite rare for this to happen, yet knife crime happened a few days ago at the arsenal parade. Anyway very sad and tragic for the family

Heard some similar stories from some other people like this. Most of them would often carry a few extra metallic rings in their pockets on top of the one or two they already wore on the regular basis to even out the field.

My rings were always made of silver with small stones, but I never really got into any fights.

But the point is the UK ruling class does silly little things on purpose. It is that one thing that they cannot help.

I swear that is just so stupid to allow some members of a society to carry around deadly weapons.

Imagine telling people that it was part of your religious beliefs to carry around a loaded AK-47, which must be original Russian made, with a few extra magazines because it is your religious belief. Because a replica just will not meet the religious criteria even though it is supposed to be a symbol but it just has to be the real weapon.

People would laugh at you and say you were mentally unstable.
I carry a knife on a daily basis.

Here in my area, you will see many people openly carrying a sidearm on their hip. I am sometimes one of them though concealed is preferred. Carrying is considered normal here.

The difference is we don't go around needlessly stabbing or shooting others. We're rather well-disciplined in many regards.

For crimes like this - hang them
A vile crime.
No one ought to carry a knife - even Sikhs.
Sikhs are often quick to join Tommy
Robinson and have a pint. Not today
Agreed.

But will UK authorities do something about it? Or weasel their way out of it by blaming the victim?

No chance. Most people don't give a shit about fringe issues. How many kalay voted a specific way when one of their was killed by the police?

Brother, I think you overestimate the Burnham effect and underestimate the hatred of labour effect. Mays local elections results show the English people will vote for fringe parties on issues you are dismissing.

The issue in UK is that only one group is permitted to "carry" on the basis of their supposed religious conviction. If Sikhs can carry a blade, why can't I? I am immediately at a disadvantage in any altercation with a Sikh carrying a blade because although they are legally not supposed to "deploy" that blade, what if they choose to, for whatever heat of the moment reasoning?

Better still, nobody should be allowed.

Nobody should be allowed to carry a weapon.

Otherwise the Sikhs should carry a paper made substitute. lol. Not a real made blade.

Why is a weapon ceremonial? Couldn't they pick something that doesn't cause violence. These tribal antics have no place in Britain.

They do this strange stuff in India because anything goes in India.

That doesn't mean its okay to walk around with a machete.
But the UK ruling class also have a very twisted sense of humor. They troll at an unbelievable level.

The discussion about this will begin regardless, and the UK govts will eventually end this permission.

Yes but that is a general permission and a given right to all law abiding citizens. There is no exception to it.

Here in the US, it is a Constitutional protection though many states have gone to extreme lengths to restrict that permission. Some being more draconian than others. But, that is a topic for a separate thread.

I see this crime has now become the latest culture war issue in the UK. Are Reform exploiting it the most ?
Most parties are pinning the blame on the police and demanding they be further investigated. And this is exactly what will happen. Laughable.

Reform are not helping as they are also complaining about "2 tier policing" as they always do.

Instead, the "selective right to carry" law itself needs to be abolished. Either everyone can carry a lethal weapon or nobody can.

I know that Sikhs will argue the actual knife that can be carried is blunted or curved or sheathed or incapable of damage, but this leaves ambiguity in terms of interpretation during a live episode, which no doubt played on the minds of the attending police (see below).

Although, as per the footage available, the police clearly failed to understand the nature of the incident, it is simply not the case that they harboured any malice towards the victim. They simply didn't know who the victim was and who the perpetrator was due to the deception of the perpetrator. Yes, the cops were rather stupid, but they are inclined towards a subconscious sense of sympathy towards the Sikh guy because he: (a) immediately (later proved to be a lie, btw) deployed the race card by saying Novak used a racist term towards him, and (b) likely took advantage of the AMBIGUOUS and ill conceived nature of a "selective right to carry" law that always works in the favour of Sikhs with knives in such a scenario. Any white (and probably any non-brown) police officer will be inappropriately tuned to being excessively "culturally sensitive" in this exact situation, instead of judging events objectively and free from subconscious bias (the speculation being in this specific case that the cops would incorrectly have ASSUMED that any knife a Sikh carried is non-lethal - it turns out he had TWO knives, the blunted religious one AND a lethal traditional one).

The law itself needs investigating and changing. Neither Reform, Labour, nor Tories will do that. Possibly Restore party would be interested.
